After a lot of teasing, Skoda has finally launched the new Superb in India. The new Superb will be assembled locally with CKD kits at Aurangabad plant.

The new design language features angular body panels with almost no rounded edges which makes it look very aggressive. And with those angular bi-xenon headlamps, the new Skoda Superb looks simply stunning. Based on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform (MQB stands for Modularer Querbaukasten, or modular transversal toolkit), the new Superb is 75Kg lighter than the outgoing model. The new Skoda Superb will feature the same engines from the outgoing model but has been reworked to provide better fuel efficiency. The 1.8 TSI produces 177 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The 2.0 TDI produces 188 hp. The exact figures for India can be confirmed only when the car is launched. Transmission options too are carried over from the outgoing model. The 6 Speed manual or 7 Speed DSG.

The New Skoda Superb measures 4861 mm in leangth, 1864 mm in width and 1468 mm in height. The wheelbase has been increased by 80 mm than the outgoing model. So the wheelbase is now 2841 mm. The key features of the new Skoda Superb include Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with Driving Mode Select. DCC allows drivers to customize the vehicle’s handling to their personal preferences: Normal, Sport or Comfort. Electric boot lid with virtual pedal (basically, you have to wave your foot under the rear bumper, something like in the new Volvo XC90), Electronic Parking Brake, Heated Front Windscreen, Multi-Function Camera which allows function of Lane Assist, Travel Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition and stuff like light assist, Three Zone AC, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Travel Assist (A picture processing module searches the scanned pictures for known traffic signs and compares the results with the navigation data), Park Assist, 8″ Touch Screen Infotainment System with 3D Navigation and Canton Sound System.

Key safety features include 7 airbags, ABS, Brake Assist, Hill Hold Control (O), Driver Alert (fatigue detection), Front Assist (Front Assist is a safety system that warns of the danger of collision, and in case of an unavoidable collision applies the brakes in an attempt to minimize the consequences), Blind Spot Detection, Crew Protect Assist (This feature coordinates the activities of the onboard systems to minimise emergency traffic situations), Lane Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Emergency Assist (if driver becomes incapacitated), ESC with Multicollision Brake, Speedlimiter, Adaptive Frontlight System (AFS), Smart Light Assist (This system provides improved safety by optimising illumination in all traffic situations) and Light Assist (This system automatically turns the high beam off and on).

The New Skoda Superb also features Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) ACT means that the second and third cylinders are temporarily shut down. In two-cylinder mode, the engine runs more efficiently. Depending on the driving style, the technology can lower consumption by more than 0.5 l/100 km. ACT is activated in an engine speed range between 1,400 and 4,000 rpm, at a torque of between 25 and 100 Nm and at velocities of up to 130 km/h.
