Volkswagen Tiguan production starts in India

Volkswagen India has reportedly started production of the Tiguan SUV at its Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra. The Tiguan, currently in its second generation, is based on the MQB platform, and is expected to be launched in May.

Internationally, the Tiguan is available in 1.4 TSI petrol with two state of tunes, and a 2.0 TDI diesel, with 2WD and 4MOTION four-wheel drive variants. Same engines are expected for the Indian market as well, with a 7-Speed DSG automatic transmission. The 4MOTION is expected to be exclusive to the diesel.

Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “We are delighted to introduce one of our most successful global products to the Indian market. The Tiguan will be our premium SUV offering for India and will cater to the unceasing demand in the segment. Our customers will now have an extended portfolio, ranging from hatchback to executive sedan, to meet their requirements at our showrooms.”
