Throwback: An in-depth look I had at the DC Avanti

It has been almost a year since I had an “in-depth look” at the DC Avanti. Not that I had forgot, but didn’t really find time to write or edit the video. Since the car hasn’t changed in any way whatsoever, I guess I can still write about it.

Well, the first thing I want to tell you is that the Avanti looks really good in-person. The ‘fastback’ rear end might look ugly in photos, but in-person, it doesn’t look all that bad. In fact, it looks really good from certain angles. Not just Avanti, but any car for that matter, it changes your opinion when you see it in-person.

So, the body is a carbon composite built on a high-strength steel chassis, and the vehicle weighs 1,580 kg gross.

A 2.0-litre (1,998 cc) 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, sourced from Renault, powers the car, and makes 250 hp. Transmission is a 6-speed manual; I like the fact that the car is a manual, and has a rear-wheel drive configuration. The top speed has been limited to 200 km/h and a 0 – 100 km/h sprint time is claimed at 6 seconds.

As for the interior features, there is a push-button start, auto AC, an infotainment system with navigation and Apple CarPlay, and a programmable digital instrument cluster. If you feel the interiors are a bit dark, there are some bright customizable packages too.

Moving on to the safety section, there is ABS + EBD and a reversing camera. There are no airbags in the Avanti and honestly, I’ve no idea why. I heard the next version will have them.

Wheels are 20-inch ones, shod with 255/35 front and 295/30 rear tires. Both front and rear get double wishbone suspension. The car measures 4,565 mm in length, 1,965 mm in width and 1,200 mm in height. Ground clearance is at 170 mm.

The Avanti costs Rs 38 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. Watch the video embedded above and let me know what do you think of this desi sports car in the comments down below, and make sure to Subscribe to my YouTube channel if you haven’t already! Scroll down for some photos.
