BMW is all set to showcase its all-electric Mini Concept at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The electric Mini will go into series-production in 2019.

Its not the first time that BMW had thought of an electric Mini. Back in 2008, the company had unveiled Mini E – a converted version of the Mini Cooper, which was limited for field trials.

Coming back to the new concept, it has got those typical design elements of a modern electric car. There’s a closed hexagonal grille with E badge, and the signature DRLs at front which also sort of represent the E badge. The dark-coloured 19-inch wheels are an other signature element. The aerodynamic inlays and air intakes have been 3D printed. Moving on to the rear section, there are tail lamps which form a Union Jack.

“With its characteristic go-kart feeling and powerful electric motor, the Mini Electric Concept is great fun to drive while also being completely suitable for everyday use – and producing zero emissions to boot. That’s how we at Mini envisage electric mobility in tomorrow’s world,” says Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG.

Not much details have been shared at the moment. The production model might get more or less the same 200 hp electric motor that was found in the 2008 Mini E.

“The Mini Electric Concept is a quintessential Mini – compact, agile, simply the ideal companion for everyday driving. At the same time, it conveys a whole new take on the concept of sportiness,” explains Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. “Indeed, aerodynamics and lightweight design aren’t just important in the world of motor sport; they are also essential factors for maximising electric range. The car’s surfaces have a sense of precision and contemporary clarity about them that lends added impact to the car’s efficient character. Plus, striking accents and vivid contrasts give the exterior that distinctive Mini twist.”
