Toyota Etios scores 4 Stars in Global NCAP crash test for South Africa

In the Global NCAP and AA South Africa’s #SaferCarsforAfrica initiative, the India-made Toyota Etios has scored 4 Stars for adult occupant and 3 Stars for the child occupant protection.

The tested model weighed 1,164 kg. Safety equipment included dual front airbags, 4 Channel ABS, and ISOFix anchorages.

Adult Occupant
For the adult occupant protection, the report said, the protection offered to the driver and passenger head and neck was good. Passenger’s chest showed good protection while driver’s chest showed marginal protection. The front passengers’ knees could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard. The bodyshell was rated as stable and it was capable of withstanding further load.

Child Occupant
As for the child occupant, the report said, the child seat for a 3 year old was able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact. The Q1.5 and Q3 CRSs showed good protection The recommended CRSs showed good compatibility. The installation instructions on both child seats were not permanently attached to the seats. The vehicle was equipped with ISOFIX anchorages used to install the CRSs and 3 points belts in all seating positions. The car does not offer a disabling switch for passenger airbag to disconnect it in case a rearward facing CRS is installed in the front passenger seat.
