Suzuki has launched a new small car XBEE (Pronounced Cross-bee) at its home country, in Japan. The “compact crossover wagon” as Suzuki likes to call it, is built on the HEARTECT platform.

As for the looks, the XBEE borrows styling cues from the Hustler – another JDM small car, and from the Ignis as well. Also, one of my friends pointed out, the designers seem to have inspired by a British brand as well.

Powertrain
The XBEE is a mild hybrid vehicle, powered by a 1.0 (996 cc) 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, producing 99 PS @ 5,500 rpm and an impressive 150 Nm of torque @ 1,700 – 4,000 rpm. The electric motor produces 3.1 PS and 50 Nm of torque. Transmission is a 6-Speed automatic. Buyers have a choice of 2WD or Full time 4WD.

The vehicle’s front suspension is McPherson struts while the rear is Torsion beam coil spring (2WD) or ITL (Isolated Trailing Link) type coil spring (4WD).

Features
The 4WD variant comes with two new driving modes: Sport mode and Snow mode. Also standard on the variant is Grip Control that supports starting on muddy and slippery roads; and Hill Descent Control that maintains vehicle speed at 7 km/h.

Other equipment includes LED headlamps and fog lamps, keyless entry, cruise control, Auto AC, 16 inch aluminum wheels and more.

Safety kit includes airbags, ABS, ESP, Lane departure warning, 3D View that lets the driver see the vehicle’s 360-degree surroundings, Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS) collision-mitigating system and the Back-up Brake Support for backing-up, which is installed for the first time on Suzuki’s compact car.
