The Indian arm of Toyota, the Toyota Kirloskar Motor have finally decided to introduce the Yaris in the Indian market. The company showcased the Yaris sedan at the Auto Expo 2018, along with their other line up which included electric and fuel cell concepts.
In some markets, the Yaris sedan is sold as ‘Vios’, which i personally like.
The car will go against the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz. It has got some segment first features that might help it win against the aforementioned established players.
At this point, we aren’t sure whether the ageing Etios will be continued to be offered alongside the Yaris. But, what we do know is that the Etios will be sharing its engines with the Yaris. The examples displayed at the Auto Expo had 1.5 badges, indicating a 1.5-litre petrol engine under the hood. As for the transmission, there’ll be a CVT option. The 1.4-litre diesel is expected to be offered with a 5-Speed manual.
Features include disc brakes at all four corners, front parking sensors, touchscreen infotainment with hand/air gesture, 4.2-inch multi information display, power adjustable driver seat, roof mounted air vents, tyre pressure monitoring system, and a total of 7 airbags.
Toyota said that the bookings will start from April 2018. Checkout the first look video embedded above.
