Jaguar is marking 50 years of its flagship XJ luxury saloon with the launch of XJ50 special edition. Unveiled at Auto China 2018, the XJ50 comes with visual enhancements.

On the exterior, the XJ50 gets Autobiography-style front and rear bumpers, 20-inch Venom wheels, black front grille and unique badging on the rear and side vents. The colour palette includes Fuji White, Santorini Black, Loire Blue and Rosello Red.

Interiors get XJ50-badged illuminated treadplates, soft-grain diamond-quilted seats, embossed XJ50 logos, anodised gearshift paddles and bright metal foot pedals.

No mechanical changes under the hood. The XJ50 can be had either in standard wheelbase or a long wheelbase variant. It is offered with 3.0 V6 turbo diesel or a 3.0 V6 supercharged petrol. In some markets, the XJ is available with 2.0 turbo petrol as well. For those who want more, there is a 5.0 V8 supercharged petrol with generous number of horses.

The XJ50 is available to order now, priced from £74,280 in the UK.

“Spanning half a century, the Jaguar XJ remains true to its heritage with a wonderful balance of beautiful design, intelligent performance and indulgent luxury that ensures it stands out from the crowd. This is a car worth celebrating and the XJ50 pays homage to a giant within the Jaguar brand that we believe is one of the world’s most stylish sporting saloons,” said Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar.

Jaguar said that the XJ Series 1, four years into its life, became the world’s only mass-produced 12-cylinder four-door car and, with a top speed of 140 mph (225 km/h), it was also the fastest four-seater of its time.
