The folks at Affalterbach have expanded the GT family by adding the GT S Roadster. The family now has a dozen members: four two-door Coupés, three Roadsters, two customer sports racing cars and three four-door Coupés.

The much-loved 4.0-litre V8 biturbo develops 522 hp at 6250 rpm and 670 Nm of torque at 1900-5000 rpm – less than the GT C Roadster but more than the GT Roadster, suggesting that the GT C is the most powerful among the roadster variants. The GT S Roadster sprints from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 308 km/h. The engine is paired to an AMG Speedshift DCT 7G sport transmission.

The driver gets to choose between five driving modes – C, S, S+, Individual and RACE.

Buyers can opt for rear axle steering along with the AMG Dynamic Plus package. The active air regulation system ‘Airpanel’ is included as standard.

The sport seats are upholstered in black Artico man-made leather with Dinamica microfibre as standard, while numerous options are available including the AMG Performance seats. The AMG Silver Chrome Interior package comes as standard while the Piano Lacquer, matt silver glass-fibre, carbon-fibre and matt carbon-fibre trims are in the options list.

For those opting for AMG Performance seats, the AIRSCARF neck-level heating system comes as standard.

The aforementioned AMG Dynamic Plus includes AMG Performance steering wheel, yellow highlights in the instrument cluster and stiffly set-up sport suspension.

The three-layered fabric soft top is supported by a low weight magnesium/steel/aluminium structure. Additional roll-over protection is provided by an integrated aluminium cross-member, while measures have been taken to reduce noise.

As for the wheels, a 19-inch 10-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in vanadium silver is fitted as standard. A host of different design and colour variants are also available as optional equipment, including a larger 20-inch rear wheels.

The AMG Ride Control sports suspension with Adaptive Damping System comes as standard and so is the electronically controlled Rear-axle limited-slip differential.
