Hyundai Motor Group, Coventry City Council and the UK Government have partnered with UK-based startup Urban Air Port to launch what is claimed to be the world’s first eVTOL hub. If all goes according to the plan, Coventry will get the ‘Air-One’ — an eVTOL hub for cargo drones and air taxis, later this year. Hyundai will deploy its air taxis, a prototype of which, was showcased at CES 2020.

Urban Air Port claims the planned Coventry hub to be the world’s smallest airport. Besides passenger air taxi and autonomous logistics services, the hub will also have demonstration and showcase zones as depicted in the rendering above. The Air-One is expected to be ready for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Cars need roads. Trains need rails. Planes need airports. eVTOLs will need Urban Air Ports. Over a hundred years ago, the world’s first commercial flight took off, creating the modern connected world. Urban Air Port will improve connectivity across our cities, boost productivity and help the UK to take the lead in a whole new clean global economy. – Ricky Sandhu, Founder and Executive Chairman, Urban Air Port

Urban Air Port has been granted £1.2 million from UK Research and Innovation’s Future Flight Challenge. The company aims to develop more than 200 sites in the next five years and is seeking more investors.
