As mentioned, the new studio opening was accompanied by the reveal of Hummer X mid-size concepts. These concepts are designed to explore new production methods and modularity. The so-called Flex Fab, or flexible manufacturing technology, is an additive manufacturing process that is said to enable fast, small-batch, on-demand production. It is essentially 3D printing, but for metal. GM says that the Flex Fab tech unlocked a new Hummer aesthetic: a clean, flat-topped silhouette with radiused edges, laser-welded seams, and visible precision bolts.
The cockpit has been designed with modularity in mind. The displays, for example, are stackable as needed. If the driver wants specific displays when they’re rock crawling, trail running, or cruising the highway, that is possible. The concept also talks about sustainability, where adhesives are replaced with snap fits and mechanical fasteners – just simple, single materials that are envisioned to be fully recycled. Seatbacks, headrest backs and instrument panel ends are made from recycled car fascias, and parts are designed for easy disassembly so customers can swap, share, and recirculate them as part of the community experience, helping to create a circular economy, GM says.
GM says that the concepts are made with 57% Flex Fab process. As you probably see, the size is quite compact.

]]>The post 2027 RAM 1500 Rumble Bee muscle truck lineup appeared first on Autodevot.
]]>The Ram 1500 Rumble Bee “muscle trucks” lineup includes three variants: 1500 Rumble Bee, 1500 Rumble Bee 392, and 1500 Rumble Bee SRT. The base model will be available by late 2026, while the other two will arrive in the first half of 2027.
The range-topping 1500 Rumble Bee SRT is billed as the fastest production truck ever, and I don’t think we can argue with that. I mean, if you look at the sporty bodykit it wears, it has got not only a 4.5-inch front splitter, but also a rear spoiler! A freakin rear spoiler for a pick-up truck! Drag co-efficient is claimed to be 0.357 Cd. The truck rides on 22-inch aluminium wheels wrapped with Pirelli all-season tyres. The optional Track Pack gets you Goodyear all-season tyres rated for 274 km/h (170 mph) top speed. The front discs measure 410 x 42 mm, gripped by Brembo 6-piston callipers.
RAM says that the frame has been modified for this application. A total of 13-inches of length is removed, reducing frame flex by 10% for greater rigidity and response to driver inputs. For the SRT, the air suspension with Bilstein dampers is included as standard. In Track Mode, the truck is lowered by 1.5-inches.
The 1500 Rumble Bee SRT packs a 6.2-litre supercharged Hellcat HEMI V8 with 579 kW (777 bhp/787 metric hp) and 922 Nm (680 lb-ft). Transmission remains an 8-speed ZF automatic. The official 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) sprint time is 3.4 seconds, and the top speed is 274 km/h (170 mph).
For those who don’t wanna go full bonkers, there’s the 1500 Rumble Bee 392, packing a 6.4-litre HEMI V8 with 350 kW (470 bhp/476 metric hp) and 616 Nm (455 lb-ft). The official 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) sprint time is 5.2 seconds.
Brakes are a bit smaller too, measuring 378 mm x 30 mm at the front, gripped by two-piston callipers, and 375 mm x 22 mm at the rear, gripped by single-piston callipers. The optional Track Pack adds an electronic spool differential (intended for drag race starts and burning rubber) that can lock the axle to command an even torque split between the rear tyres. An asymmetric limited slip differential remains an optional upgrade.
The base 1500 Rumble Bee packs a 5.7-litre HEMI V8 with 294 kW (395 bhp/400 metric hp) and 555 Nm (410 lb-ft), which are more than sufficient numbers for a so-called muscle truck. The official 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) sprint time is 6.1 seconds.

Some of the key highlights of the 2027 RAM 1500 SRT TRX include suspension travel of up to 330 mm (13-inch) at the front & 356 mm (14-inch) at the rear, Dana 60 rear axle with full floating axle shafts, second-gen Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks, rear electronic locking differential with an axle hop damper, standard 35-inch tires, and 11.8-inch (30 cm) ground clearance.
Those 18-inch beadlock wheels are optional (standard on Bloodshot Night Edition). Powering the RAM 1500 SRT TRX is, of course, the iconic 6.2L supercharged (2.4L twin-screw) HEMI V8, pumping out 579.5 kW (777 bhp/788 metric hp) and 922 Nm (680 lb-ft). The engine is coupled with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and a BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case.
The transfer case offers a 2.64:1 low range for precise crawling maneuvers, in addition to selectable 4WD Auto, 4WD High (locked) and 4WD Low (locked) functionalities. A 127 mm (5-inch) full stainless-steel sport-tuned exhaust system rounds off the driving experience.
Talking about performance figures of a truck is ridiculous, but why buy a performance truck in the first place if you’re not interested in that, right? Well, the official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 3.5 seconds and the top speed is 190 km/h (118 mph).
Key highlights inside include a 12.3-inch digital cluster, a 14.5-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, a full-colour Head-up Display (HUD) with a 10-inch field of view, and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. The front seats feature 12-way power adjustability, memory, massage, heating and ventilation functions. The truck also boasts Level 2 automated driving capability.

]]>The post Scout Traveler and Terra appeared first on Autodevot.
]]>#Scout Terra & Traveler pic.twitter.com/2Zz1pITc1A
— Sagar (@autodevot) December 24, 2025
The International Harvester eventually became Navistar International Corporation due to various circumstances, which in late 2016 was absorbed by Traton SE, VW Group’s truck division. And that, my friend, is how the ‘Scout’ brand became part of the VW Group. Now that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the new Scout Traveler and Terra.
First up, we’ve the Scout Traveler—which indeed, is a very handsome looking SUV. Looks much better than the Rivian, in my personal opinion. I think the designers have done a fantastic job in modernizing the original Scout’s design. The rectangular fascia, the side marker lamps, and the general silhouette of the vehicle, are a nod to the original Scout II.
Interestingly, the Traveler is built on a body-on-frame platform with a solid rear axle, claimed to be all-new and proprietary. Other off-roading credentials include up to 35-inch all-terrain tires, over 1-foot of ground clearance, nearly 3-feet of water fording capability, a front sway bar disconnect, and front & rear mechanical locking differentials. We don’t have the numbers, but those approach and departure angles look pretty sweet too.
It’s a similar formula for the Terra pickup truck in terms of the platform and design. The bed measures 5.5-foot, which Scout reckons is a right-sized one. Where’s the spare wheel, you ask? Well, the Terra carries an underbody 33-inch spare wheel (35-inch optional). As for towing capacities, the Terra is estimated to tow over 4,536 kg (10,000 lbs), while the Traveler is estimated to tow over 3,175 kg (7,000 lbs).
The interior too looks clean and minimalistic, and is essentially a modernized version of the original Scout II interior. There’s a healthy mix of digital and physical interfaces, and the materials look premium.
But anyway, let’s talk about the juicy bits of the story. Both the Scout Traveler and Scout Terra will be offered with 100% battery electric or gasoline-fueled range-extender series-hybrid options. The BEV models will, of course, offer RWD and dual-motor AWD options. Scout is yet to disclose full details, but it estimates the BEV variants to offer up to 563 km (350 mi) of range, while the series-hybrid models are estimated to offer over 805 km (500 mi) of range. The 800-volt architecture should allow up to 350 kW charging capability. The dual-motor AWD variants may offer up to 1,356 Nm (1,000 lb-ft) of torque.
The company expects to commence production sometime in 2027 at the Scout Motors Production Center near Columbia, South Carolina. Retail prices are expected to be under $60,000 (before incentives). Reservations have already commenced ($100, refundable).

]]>The post 2026 Toyota Hilux debuts with a BEV appeared first on Autodevot.
]]>Toyota took the wraps off the 9th-gen Hilux simultaneously in Thailand, Europe and Australia. Depending on the market, the new pick-up truck will be available in various body configurations and powertrain options, including—for the first time—with an all-electric powertrain. Prices in Australia start at $33,990 (4×2 WorkMate single cab).
More photos can be viewed here. But anyway, the design of the 9th-gen Hilux was done not in Japan or Europe, but by the design team at Toyota Australia. The comments on the internet I’ve seen from the past two days suggest that the people target audience is unimpressed with this new model, but I imagine the opinions might change in a few months. While the outgoing model sports relatively smoother lines, this new one has sharp, angular lines, especially on the front fascia.
There’s no Hilux GR Sport just yet, but in Australia, you get the Hilux Rugged X (available at a later date), while in Thailand, you get the Hilux Overland with GR Parts. Both are essentially heavily accessorized versions with better off-road/adventure capability.
The Hilux continues to be built on the Toyota IMV platform—which, believe it or not—was introduced back in 2004. I think it’s remarkable how a two-decade-old platform has been made to accommodate an all-electric version.
In Australia, you currently don’t get the Hilux BEV. What you get is a 2.8L 4-cylinder turbo diesel with 150 kW (204 metric hp) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) when paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. With the 6-speed automatic, the torque goes up to 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). A 48-volt mild-hybrid version is also available with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.4L diesel will no longer be available in any market.
What about Thailand? Well, it’s the same situation. You get the aforementioned diesel powertrain. However, you also get the Hilux Travo-e in Thailand, which is an all-electric variant. For Europe, it is called the Hilux BEV.
The Hilux Travo-e comes with a dual-motor AWD configuration, with the front electric motor rated at 82.2 kW (112 metric hp) and 205.5 Nm (151.5 lb-ft) while the rear electric motor is rated at 129.3 kW (176 metric hp) and 268.6 Nm (198 lb-ft). The combined power output is capped at 144 kW (196 metric hp). A 59.2 kWh 296-volt lithium-ion battery pack is estimated to offer an NEDC range of up to 315 km (196 mi). For European markets, the WLTP range is estimated to be 240 km (149 mi). The battery pack can be DC fast-charged with up to 125 kW.

No petrol options then? Well, depending on the market, the 2.7L 4-cylinder N/A petrol may be offered. Toyota confirmed to be working on a fuel cell variant of the Hilux, expected to arrive sometime in 2028.
Key highlights inside include a digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, wireless smartphone charger, JBL premium audio system, USB-C ports, and the Toyota Safety Sense suite of ADAS.

]]>The post Daihatsu Midget X concept debuts with sports car seating layout appeared first on Autodevot.
]]>Daihatsu Midget was a kei-class pick-up truck that ran for two generations (1957-2001). During its second-generation, it was also sold as a cargo van before ending production in late 2001. At the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, Daihatsu announced its plans to revive the Midget by showcasing the Midget X concept.
In terms of the design, the Midget X concept looks like a modernized version of the original, but it also looks very robotish/autonomous delivery vehicle. The truck “bed”, or rather a box in this case, appears to be significantly smaller than that of the original, but let’s wait and see how the production model turns out. If I understood the official statements correctly, the size of the vehicle itself is the result of people’s feedback. But either way, it’s an interesting vehicle indeed, and it seems more suitable for food/grocery delivery partners. The bed or box could be modular and customizable depending on the needs.
Inside, there’s an interesting seating situation, one that is similar to the McLaren F1 and Gordon Murray T.50
This seating layout wasn’t there in the previous two generations. But anyway, the steering is a yoke, and there’s a display on either side of the yoke. The traditional mirrors are replaced by cameras. Also, notice the cookie storage tray on the driver’s seat.
What powers the Midget X concept? Well, there are no details just yet, but it’ll be a battery-electric vehicle.

]]>The post Kia Tasman joins the ute game appeared first on Autodevot.
]]>A ladder frame pick-up truck is not something people were expecting to see from Kia, but the brand has surprised them before with Stingering designs and sporty dynamics. And so, it only makes sense to surprise this time with a pick-up truck. Named after the Tasman Sea, the Kia Tasman is available to order in—you guessed it—Australia, with prices starting at AUD 46,490 (drive away). The ute is also available to order in certain Middle Eastern and African markets.
| Grade | AUD |
| S 4×2 | 46,490 |
| S 4×4 | 53,890 |
| SX 4×4 | 58,490 |
| SX+ 4×4 | 66,490 |
| X-Line 4×4 | 70,990 |
| X-Pro 4×4 | 77,990 |
Nope, the Tasman has nothing to do with the Santa Cruz “pick-up truck”; this is a proper body-on-frame truck.
The Tasman looks nothing like the Kias we’ve seen so far, and that’s probably the idea. It looks brute and rugged, and you don’t wanna mess with it when you see it in your ORVM, especially when it’s in full black. The truck measures 5,410 mm long and 1,930 mm wide, and has a wheelbase of 3,270 mm. The height varies depending on the variant; the X-Pro model measures 1,920 mm tall. The standard suspension setup includes double-wishbones at the front and a rigid axle with leaf springs at the rear.
The X-Pro is the most capable of the bunch, boasting all-terrain tyres, a ground clearance of up to 252 mm, and approach, departure and ramp-over angles of up to 32.2, 26.2 and 25.8 degrees respectively. Furthermore, features such as an Electronic Locking Differential (e-LD), X-Trek Mode (low-speed off-road cruise control (under 10 km/h)), and Ground View Monitor are also exclusive to the X-Pro. In addition to Snow, Mud and Sand modes, the X-Pro gets a Rock mode as well.
Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the Tasman offers two powertrain options. The petrol is a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit, offering 207 kW (281 metric hp) and 421 Nm (310.5 lb-ft). The petrol comes paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The diesel is a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit, offering 154.5 kW (210 metric hp) and 441 Nm (325 lb-ft). The diesel can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 4WD models will, of course, have a Two-Speed Active Transfer Case.
Inside, key highlights include a Panoramic Wide Display (a 12.3-inch cluster display, a 5-inch segment display, and a 12.3-inch infotainment), a Harman Kardon premium sound system, a 33-liter under-seat storage compartment beneath the rear seat cushions, and ADAS safety assurance.

]]>The post Bezos-backed Slate EV Truck debuts with a $20,000 price tag appeared first on Autodevot.
]]>As these official photos/renderings suggest, the Slate EV can be ordered as a pickup truck or an SUV, depending on your requirements. The official website lists 29 different personalization options, just to give you an idea. Needless to say, the truck has a simple, boxy styling to make the best use of its small footprint. It is only slightly larger than a 1985 Toyota SR5 pickup, measuring 4,435 mm long (174.6-inch), 1,793 mm wide (70.6-inch) (excluding mirrors), and 1,760 mm tall (69.3-inch), with a wheelbase of 2,766 mm (108.9-inch).
The Slate EV is available only with a single-motor RWD configuration. Meaning, you can’t go adventuring into the woods. There may be a plan to offer dual-motor AWD in the future, but for now, you’ll have to stick to urban adventures. The motor develops peak outputs of 150 kW (204 metric hp) and 264 Nm (195 lb-ft), and can do a top speed of 145 km/h (90 mph). The standard 52.7 kWh battery pack is estimated to offer a range of up to 241 km (150 mi). However, an 84.3 kWh accessory battery pack will also be available, offering a total range of up to 386 km (240 mi). The battery pack can be DC fast-charged with up to 120 kW.
Certain parts of the truck are 3D-printed, such as those customizable mesh guards on the taillights. But anyway, the max bed length and width measures 1,524 mm (60-inch) and 1,270 mm (50-inch), respectively. Max payload is 650 kg (1,433 lbs) and max towing is 454 kg (1,000 lbs). Kerb weight is 1,634 kg (3,602 lbs).
Inside too, simplicity is the name of the game. Forget the lack of an infotainment system, but you don’t even get electric windows. But don’t worry, as you may know, the aftermarket industry will have solutions for everything. Safety systems include Active Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, and up to 8 airbags.
Slate Auto’s investors include Jeff Bezos. He has invested in his personal capacity and not via Amazon. The start-up is currently accepting reservations for $50, and expects the base price to be under $20,000 after federal incentives.

]]>The post Nissan Frontier Pro PHEV concept debuts with Shanghai styling appeared first on Autodevot.
]]>As you may know, the current-gen Nissan Frontier pickup truck packs a 3.8L V6 naturally aspirated petrol engine—not exactly the type of powertrain the countries want moving forward. But don’t worry, the Frontier is not going all-electric yet. While going all-electric is inevitable, there’ll be an electrified version to fill in the gap, and it’s called the Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid. While the production version is expected to hit the Chinese market by summer 2027, a pre-production prototype was showcased at the Auto Shanghai 2025 recently.
This upcoming electrified Frontier Pro sports a fresh design (designed at Nissan’s Shanghai studio) that looks significantly different from the current model. According to Nissan, the truck was styled around the concept of “Rugged Tech” with a modern exterior design that complements a spacious and refined interior. But whatever it is, the generous lighting on the front fascia reminds us of Hyundai-Kia practices. While the front lighting may pass off as a generic full-width light bar, those three lights in the middle, according to Nissan, were inspired by the distinctive three-slot opening in the hood of the 1980s Nissan D21 hardbody pickup. The wrap-around lights at the rear make an attempt to mimic the front lights. The side profile looks clean and minimalistic. Nissan says that all variants ride on standard 18-inch alloy wheels with 265/65 R18 tires.
The hybrid powertrain will be a combo of a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor integrated into the automatic transmission. Nissan claims combined figures of 300 kW (408 metric hp) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft). For the Chinese market, the truck will offer a pure electric range of up to 135 km (84 mi), the company says. There’ll be an Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, of course, which automatically controls torque distribution between the front and rear wheels.
All models will feature a 5-link rear suspension. Off-road capability will be enhanced by the availability of an electromechanical rear differential lock. The driver can play with four modes: Hybrid, Pure Electric, Performance and Snow.
Inside, the design looks chic and minimalistic. But what makes me happy are those physical buttons under the central air vents. The steering wheel appears to have a combo of physical and touch controls, but either way, the design looks pretty clean. Other key highlights include a 10-inch instrument display, a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, front seat heating, ventilation & seat-back massage, and a standard panoramic glass roof.
To make the potential owners happy, the Frontier Pro PHEV will have an electronic retractable cover for the cargo area, and a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) port that can supply up to 6 kW of power.
The truck will be produced in China and will also be exported to other markets from China.

]]>The post Mahindra Global Pik Up concept debuts with big dreams appeared first on Autodevot.
]]>In case you haven’t figured it out already, the Global Pik Up concept is essentially a pick-up version of the second-gen Scorpio (Scorpio-N) that debuted over a year ago. It is built on the same ladder frame chassis that is claimed to make the production model to be one of the market’s most versatile and capable pick-ups. As for the design, you can expect the production model to swap concepty bits such as the bumpers, the grille, those bed-mounted spare wheels and those side steps, for more production-looking counterparts. I do hope they’ll retain the tailgate design with Mahindra branding, it kinda looks cool. For those interested to know, the pickup is designed at Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai.
The company didn’t bother sharing too much information but Mr. R Velusamy (President – Automotive Technology and Product Development, M&M Ltd.) divulged that the pick-up will have—among other things—4Xplore four-wheel-drive system, Level-2 ADAS and “immersive infotainment”. The company is also aiming for a 5-star safety rating.
So, which are the markets this so-called Global Pik Up gonna grace? Well, according to the company, the initial launch markets include South Africa, ANZ (Australia and New Zealand), MENA (Middle East and North Africa), and SCA (South and Central Asia).
