That’s right, the GTi surname doesn’t exclusively belong to Volkswagen. Peugeot is also using it for a few of its models, including the 208. As you may know, the 208 went all-electric in 2019, but a GTi variant was missing, that is, until the start of the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans recently. The E-208 GTi has been listed on the Peugeot France website, but at the time of publishing this story, it is not yet available for sale. You might wanna keep in touch with your local dealer.

I’m not an EV guy, but damn! This looks hot, doesn’t it? Besides the red paint, you can also order the E-208 GTi in white. But regardless of the exterior paint, the contrast touches will be in red, such as those inside the headlight housing, the grille, the wheel arches, and the GTi branding on the wheels. Those stunning 18-inch wheels are wrapped with 215/40 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.

Compared with the regular 208, the GTi boasts wider tracks (56 mm at the front and 27 mm at the rear), along with a 30 mm lowered ride height—thanks to springs and shock absorbers with specific hydraulic stops. There’s also a rear anti-roll bar. A limited-slip differential is integrated into the reducer for better cornering behaviour, agility, and stability. Large 355 mm front discs with 4-piston callipers should ensure braking confidence.

The E-208 GTi retains the front-wheel-drive layout, but the motor in this application is a more powerful unit. The regular E-208 in France offers two options: 100 kW (136 metric hp) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) with a 50 kWh battery pack; 115 kW (156 metric hp) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) with a 54 kWh battery pack. The GTi tops the lineup with 206 kW (280 metric hp) and 345 Nm (254 lb-ft); significantly higher figures compared with the regular models. The battery pack remains 54 kWh, sourced from CATL, offering an estimated range of up to 350 km (217 mi) (mixed use). The real-world range may differ. The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 5.7 seconds.

The dark theme is continued on the inside too, with tasteful red contrast highlights. There’s a generous application of Alcantara – on the sporty seats, steering wheel, and centre console. There’s also a carbon fibre like application on the dashboard and door panels.

Peugeot took the wraps off the third-gen 5008 recently, which will be available in mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and of course, all-electric variants. Interestingly, all three are gonna be named E-5008, for fairly obvious reasons. Buyers get to choose from Allure and GT trims, with the latter being a sporty, range-topping model. Goes on sale in Europe in Autumn 2024.

The photos here showcase the E-5008 GT trim, which differentiates itself on the outside with a dual-tone paint scheme, Pixel LED headlights with 3-claw LED running lights, and aerodynamically designed 20-inch Diamond-cut alloy wheels. It is built on the new STLA Medium platform—which also underpins models such as the third-gen e-3008 and a bunch of upcoming models including the 2025 Citroen C5 Aircross and the 2025 Jeep Compass.

The new model has grown in size, thanks to the aforementioned platform. It now measures 4,791 mm long (+150 mm), 1,895 mm wide (+51 mm) and 1,694 mm tall (+48 mm), with a wheelbase of 2,901 mm (+61 mm). The E-5008 offers up to 3 rows of seating, and Peugeot claims a luggage/boot capacity of 1,815 litres when you fold the last two rows and 748 litres when you fold only the last row and 259 litres with all rows up.

Inside, a 21-inch curved panel called the i-Cockpit grabs all the attention, but the multi-tone dashboard and centre console design are just as jazzy. There’s something called i-Toggles, 10 customizable touch-sensitive buttons which offer quick and easy access to some of the user’s favourite functions. Other key highlights include tri-zone climate control, optional AGR (Aktion Gesunder Rücken)-certified front seats (designed to prevent back pain), natural language voice recognition, ChatGPT-based AI assistant, optional VisioPark 360° system, and Drive Assist Plus 2.0 ADAS suite which includes—among other things—Adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, and semi-automatic lange change. On the GT version, the front seats feature ventilation and massaging functions, while the rear seats are heated.

Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the all-electric E-5008 will be offered in three variants: a front-wheel-drive variant with 157 kW (210 bhp/213 metric hp) and 345 Nm (254 lb-ft), another front-wheel-drive variant with 170 kW (228 bhp/231 metric hp) and 345 Nm (254 lb-ft), and of course, a dual-motor AWD variant with combined figures of 237 kW (318 bhp/322 metric hp) and 515 Nm (380 lb-ft). A 400-volt, 98 kWh lithium-ion battery pack (NMC chemistry) is estimated to offer a range of up to 660 km (410 mi) depending on the variant. The battery pack can be DC fast-charged with up to 160 kW.

So those were the all-electric variants. But as mentioned, there’ll be hybrid variants too. The first one is a 48-volt mild-hybrid one named E-5008 Hybrid 136 e-DCS6. What that long-a** name actually means is that it is a combination of a 100 kW (136 metric hp) 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor integrated into a 6-speed DCT. The mild-hybrid functionalities include torque assistance at low engine speeds and a claimed reduction of up to 15% in fuel consumption. Peugeot also claims that in urban driving, the 136 e-DCS6 can operate up to 50% of the time in 100% electric mode.

The second one is, of course, a PHEV variant named 195 e-DCS7. This is a combo of a 110 kW (150 metric hp) 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, a 92 kW (125 metric hp) electric motor and a 7-speed automatic transmission. Peugeot claims an all-electric range of over 80 km (50 mi).

Peugeot has updated the E-Traveller van for 2024 with styling and tech upgrades, and of course, it now claims a bit more range. The new E-Traveller comes in two lengths: Standard (4.98 m) and Long (5.33 m); which means the Compact (4.60 m) option is no longer available.

The 2024 E-Traveller sports a fresh new face with new full LED headlights featuring the brand’s 3 claw light signature. The redesigned “grille” houses the new Peugeot logo, further enhancing the looks of the vehicle, while the redesigned front bumper apparently is more aerodynamic and therefore aids in efficiency. The rest of the vehicle looks pretty much the same, this includes the side profile, the wheels and the rear fascia.

Inside, there’s a brand new dashboard that houses a 10-inch digital instrument cluster (fitted as standard), a 10-inch touchscreen, and of course, a new steering wheel as well. Other key highlights include TomTom 3D navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and more charging sockets (two USB-C sockets on the dashboard, two USB-C sockets in the second-row and two 12-volt sockets).

ADAS include Adaptive Cruise Control, Driver Fatigue Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Keeping Assist, and Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection.

Peugeot-E-Traveller-interior-seats

Since the van is available in 2 lengths and several configurations, it can offer up to 9 seats on board. A face-to-face lounge seating configuration is also available with a retractable sliding table for all four seats. Seat upholstery options include a new fabric or perforated leather.

Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the electric motor at the front offers the same output figures of 100 kW (136 metric hp) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) in ‘Power’ mode. The top speed also remains the same at 130 km/h (81 mph).

Peugeot-E-Traveller-charging

The new E-Traveller offers two battery pack options: a 50 kWh pack with a WLTP range of up to 224 km (139 mi) and a 75 kWh pack with a WLTP range of up to 350 km (217 mi). Peugeot claims to have included a new regenerative braking system with three levels, which can be cycled through via paddles behind the steering wheel.

The second-gen Peugeot 2008 debuted in 2019, and can be considered as “not-that-old”. However, it has been nearly 4 years now, and a facelift is certainly due. Which is exactly what Peugeot did with the 2008. The 2024 Peugeot 2008 facelift has already been listed on Peugeot France official website, and your local dealer might be able to help you out with further information. In the meantime, let’s take a look at all the hoopla.

Speaking of which, there’s a revised front fascia where the three claws have been moved to the bumper as opposed to in the headlights in the outgoing model. The headlights are also new, obviously, and it’s the range-topping GT trim that gets these full LED headlights. Speaking of trims, buyers get to choose from 2008 Active, 2008 Allure and 2008 GT. Allure and GT trims get 17-inch Diamond-cut alloy ‘Karakoy’ wheels, and the latter also offers an option of 18-inch ‘Evissa’ wheels. At the rear, the re-designed taillights have horizontal lines as opposed to vertical ones in the outgoing model. Buyers get to choose from 6 exterior paint options: Selenium Grey, Artense Grey, Okenite White, Black Perla Nera, Elixir Red and Vertigo Blue. The GT comes with a black roof as standard.

Inside, key features include a new 10-inch driver display; standard 10-inch touchscreen (7-inch standard previously on first two trims); wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity; natural language voice recognition with “Ok Peugeot” command; a new selector in the centre console; three USB-C sockets as standard (two at the front, one at the rear) and one USB-A socket (at the rear) for Allure and GT trims, and ADAS suite that includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go function; Automatic Emergency Braking with collision warning; extended recognition and display of traffic signs in the digital instrument cluster; Active Lane Departure Warning with lane correction; Driver Attention Alert, and Blind-spot Monitoring. There’ll also be Parking assistance with new high-definition front and rear cameras offering a 360° view of the surroundings.

2024-Peugeot-2008-facelift_3

Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the new Peugeot 2008 offers PureTech 100 (73 kW/100 metric hp 1.2L 3-cylinder turbo petrol; 6-MT), PureTech 130 (96 kW/130 metric hp 1.2L 3-cylinder turbo petrol; 6-MT) and BlueHDi 130 (96 kW/130 metric hp 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo diesel; 8-MT) options. All three are equipped with a Stop & Start system.

There’ll also be an all-electric powertrain, of course, which is called the E-2008. The front electric motor now offers 115 kW or 156 metric hp, an increase of 20 metric hp. The battery pack capacity is also up from 50 kWh to 54 kWh, enabling a WLTP mixed cycle range of up to 406 km (252 mi) as opposed to 345 km (214 mi) in the outgoing model. A 7.4 kW charger comes standard, while there’s an option to go for a three-phase 11 kW charger.

Future plans
Peugeot further said that at the beginning of 2024, the new 2008 will receive a new 48-volt (mild) hybrid powertrain that combines an updated version of the PureTech petrol engine coupled with an electric motor integrated into a 6-speed DCT. This technology offers extra torque at low engine speeds and up to 15% lower fuel consumption, the company added.

As you probably know, the Peugeot 3008 already offers a plug-in hybrid option in addition to regular petrol and diesel powetrain options, while the 5008 offered only petrol and diesel options. Well, now it’s time for both models to get mildy electrified, and inspire their siblings such as 208, 2008, 308, 308 SW and 408 to eventually get mildy electrified too.

The powertrain is a combination of a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder PureTech turbocharged petrol engine and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Here, a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor is integrated into the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The ICE offers 100 kW (136 metric hp) and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft), while the aforementioned e-motor develops 21 kW (29 metric hp) and 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). The e-motor’s figures are sufficient for tasks such as parking maneuvers and low speed driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

As with any other mild-hybrid system, the e-motor assists the ICE with temporary torque boost requirements, performs brake energy regeneration, and also assists the belt-starter. A tiny lithium-ion battery with a gross capacity of 898 Wh and an available capacity of 432 Wh is installed underneath the front passenger seat. It comes with an 8-year/160,000 km warranty.

Peugeot says that this mild-hybrid powertrain replaces the regular PureTech 130 EAT8 option. The company also claims that the new option lowers fuel consumption by up to 15%. Compared with the regular petrol option, the mild-hybrid powertrain is claimed to offer average fuel savings of around 1 litre/100 km.

At this year’s CES Show, Peugeot showcased the Inception concept—which apparently is a preview of what to expect in the brand’s future products. Of course, a lot of things we see here are quite exaggerated, but a few elements or their derivatives will definitely make it to future products.

So, what we are seeing here is a futuristic iteration of Peugeot’s current design language. The three claws have been incorporated into a body that gives off subtle retro vibes. Peugeot calls the area that has three claws and three horizontal light bars a “fusion mask”. As you can probably see, the concept has a lot of glass area, with the glass borrowed from the world of architecture. The glass has multi-chrome treatment (treatment with metal oxides) for thermal and anti-UV benefits.

The concept rides on 20-inch ‘Aerorim’ aerodynamic wheels featuring forged textile and aluminium inserts; the latter has micro-perforations. Notice the charging indicator on the side as well. Peugeot calls the horizontal bar on the side a ‘Tech Bar’, featuring a small display that displays different messages when the driver and passengers approach it. The rest of the things might be stupid, but I’m thoroughly digging the design.

The Inception concept sits on the so-called STLA Large platform, and the vehicle measures 5 metres long. The future is all about sustainability, right? Most of the things—if not all—need to be sustainably sourced or recycled. Wherever possible, off-cut scraps need to be used. And the Inception concept is no different. The exterior paint of the concept is composed of very fine metal pigments and is single-coated, which means that much less energy is consumed during its application.

On the inside, well, things look rather complicated and hard to understand. But I’ll try my best to explain in the simplest terms. What we are seeing on the dashboard is a futuristic iteration of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit. Peugeot calls that video game controller-like steering ‘Hypersquare’; it has got four circles for controlling different functionalities. There’s also a circular instrument display called ‘Halo Cluster’. Why is it circular? Well, it apparently offers information to the passengers approaching the car. And of course, at the touch of a button, both the Hypersquare and the Halo Cluster retract to make way for a large panoramic screen to entertain the passengers in autonomous driving mode. Those strange looking seats are apparently a futuristic take on the armchairs, featuring active air bolsters and storage spaces on the side.

But anyway, the Inception concept packs two electric motors, one at each axle, offering a combined power output of 500 kW (680 metric hp) on paper. A 100 kWh battery pack is estimated to offer a range of up to 800 km (497 mi) on a single charge. And thanks to 800-volt architecture, DC fast-charging should get you a 150 km (93 mi) range in about 5 minutes—that is, of course, if you find such a public fast charging station.

Peugeot has updated the e-208 for 2023 with increased power and range. Depending on the market, the 2023 e-208 will go on sale sometime next year, but in the meantime, let’s take a look at all the hoopla.

Speaking of which, visually, there’s nothing to talk about. The 2023 e-208 looks exactly the same as it looked in early 2019; not that it needs to look any better. It continues to look sharp and stunning for a B-segment supermini. What has changed, however, is what’s underneath that body. According to Peugeot, the 2023 e-208 borrows the e-motor from the e-308, and as a result, the power output is up by 15 kW (20 metric hp) to 115 kW (156 metric hp), while the torque remains the same at 260 Nm (192 lb-ft).

2023-Peugeot-e-208_interior

Apparently, there’s also a new, more-efficient 400-volt battery pack with 51 kWh (48.1 kWh usable) of energy content, estimated to deliver an extra 38 km (23.6 mi) range. Thanks to efficiency measures, the average consumption is claimed to be 12 kWh/100 km. In the French market, the e-208 currently claims a range of up to 362 km (225 mi); which means, with these new updates, the e-208 can deliver up to 400 km (248.5 mi) as per the WLTP cycle. The e-208 originally claimed a 340 km (211 mi) range, which was updated to 362 km at the end of 2021, thanks to some work on increasing its efficiency.

Some of the efficiency increasing measures taken last year have been carried over into the new model. These would include a heat pump coupled with a humidity sensor installed on top of the windscreen maximizing the energy efficiency of the heating and air conditioning. The information transmitted by the sensor makes it possible to control the air recirculation in the passenger compartment more accurately and, ultimately, to preserve the amount of energy contained in the battery when heating and maintaining the temperature inside the vehicle. Also, energy class A+ tyres wrapped around 16-inch wheels minimizes energy loss through friction. And finally, a more efficient gear ratio.

The third-gen Peugeot 308 lineup will be joined by E-308 and E-308 SW (station wagon) all-electric variants in mid-2023. Order books are yet to open in Europe, but Peugeot wants to let you know that the models will be available in Allure and GT trim levels.

The E-308 and E-308 SW models will have all the design elements of the ICE- and hybrid-powered models, including the fang-shaped light signatures, Matrix LED headlights and three-claw LED taillights. The 18-inch aluminium wheels are said to be specifically developed for the all-electric versions in order to maximize aerodynamic efficiency.

Peugeot-E-308-and-E-308-SW_interior

Both E-308 and E-308 SW are gonna be front-wheel-drive models, powered by a single motor at the front, developing 115 kW (156 metric hp) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque. A 54 kWh (51 kWh usable) NMC battery pack (80% Nickel, 10% Manganese, 10% Cobalt) operating at 400 volts is estimated to deliver a WLTP range of over 400 km (248+ mi).

A 11 kW onboard charger comes standard. And, if you can find a 100 kW DC fast-charger, 20% to 80% SoC is claimed to be possible in less than 25 minutes.

Some of the other key features include a heated steering wheel, a 3D head-up display, and a 10-inch central touchscreen.

Peugeot has been selling the ‘408’ nameplate in a sedan format in China since 2010, and now it has decided to extend the 408 sales to Europe as well. But the difference is that Europeans will be getting the 408 only in a new crossover bodystyle, while the Chinese will have both options. According to reports, Peugeot will be selling the 408 crossover as ‘408 X’ to differentiate it from the sedan version. But anyway, the new 408 crossover will go on sale in early 2023 and will be produced in Mulhouse, France, for European markets, and in Chengdu, China, for the local market, of course.

Peugeot is not classifying the new 408 as a crossover or an SUV; instead, it describes the vehicle as “a dynamic fastback”. Hmm.. a coupe-SUV then. It is built on the EMP2 platform that also underpins models such as the third-gen 308 and the Citroën C5 X. You know what that means, right? The 408 crossover is nothing but Peugeot’s version of the C5 X. But of course, the styling is fully borrowed from the third-gen 308, including the design of the grille, the headlights, the running lights and the taillights. Besides that fastback, the other difference I guess is the design of those 20-inch rims, which Peugeot describes as a “disruptive geometric design”.

While we said that the 408 crossover is nothing but Peugeot’s version of the C5 X, there are some differences in dimensions. The 408 measures 4,687 mm long (-188 mm), 1,859 mm wide (-6 mm) with mirrors folded and 1,478 mm tall (-7 mm), with a wheelbase of 2,787 mm (+2 mm).

Inside, the 408 crossover boasts the latest gen Peugeot i-Cockpit—which is Peugeot’s equivalent of Mercedes’ MBUX system. Here, the system comprises a 10-inch driver display and a 10-inch central touchscreen. Luggage space can be expanded from 536 litres to 1,611 litres with the rear seat backrests folded down. ADAS include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function; Night Vision camera (warns of animals, pedestrians and cyclists); long-range blind spot monitoring (75 metres), and Rear Traffic Alert.

Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the 408 crossover offers one petrol and two petrol-electric plug-in hybrid options. The regular petrol is a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged unit with 95.5 kW (130 metric hp) and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft) of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.

For those who wish to plug-in, there’s the Hybrid 180 e-EAT8 to start with, which combines a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor integrated into an 8-speed automatic transmission, offering combined figures of 132.5 kW (180 metric hp) and 360 Nm (265.5 lb-ft). There’s also the Hybrid 225 e-EAT8 variant on offer, which offers 165.5 kW (225 metric hp), while the torque remains the same. No AWD on offer on any of the variants. Peugeot brand has entered the Pakistani automotive market for the very first time—in an exclusive partnership with Lucky Motor Corporation. The Karachi-based company has been retailing Kia cars in Pakistan since 2017. But anyway, the Stellantis-Lucky partnership is also setting up a local assembly facility, making Peugeot the first European brand to be locally assembled in Pakistan.

The partnership commenced with the opening of eight 3S dealerships (sales, after-sales and services) in six cities: Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Gujranwala. At present, only the second-gen 2008 SUV is available in Pakistan, with ex-factory prices starting at PKR 5,250,000 (INR 22.04 lakh or US$ 28,965).

While in the markets outside the 2008 offers petrol, diesel and all-electric powertrains, in Pakistan, the SUV is currently offered only with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine in 130 hp tune, and is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

“We are delighted with this partnership. This will be the first time a European car is assembled in Pakistan and we are excited to work with Lucky Motors to support employment and localization in the country. Internationalization is a key focus for Peugeot, with the B and C segment SUV growth in Pakistan, representing a great opportunity for us. This is also bolstered by the evolution of the legislation of the country towards electrification which is fully in line with our own strategy,” said Linda Jackson, CEO, Peugeot.
