The Middle East’s Islamic Absolute Monarchy, Saudi Arabia, has finally decided to issue driving licences to women in a bid to repair its international reputation. Saudi Arabia was the last country on the planet to ban women driving, and it is being reported that the 32 year old Crown Prince Mohammed is behind this reform.

Manal al-Sharif, one of the women behind the Women2Drive campaign, celebrated the victory by posting a photo of herself behind the wheel. She was arrested in Saudi Arabia in 2011 after posting a video on YouTube of herself driving a car.

Speaking to NYTimes, she said, “I was released only after my father begged King Abdullah, the ruler at the time, to pardon me.”
