Mitsubishi Airtrek electric SUV debuts in China with an old name

Mitsubishi has unveiled the Airtrek electric SUV at the 2021 Auto Guangzhou in China. The SUV has already been listed on the GAC Mitsubishi joint-venture website with a starting price tag of CNY 210,000 (INR 24.50 lakh or US$ 32,910). The Airtrek nameplate was previously used for the first-gen Outlander.

But anyway, the new Airtrek features Mitsubishi-typical styling elements such as the Dynamic Shield front fascia with dual lamp setup, dual-tone paint scheme, and Y-shaped taillight signatures. Notice the flush-fit door handles which are not seen in other latest Mitsubishi models, and that is because the Airtrek is a Mitsubishi-zed version of the GAC Aion V. The crossover measures 4,630 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, 1,728 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,830 mm. 19-inch aluminium alloy wheels are standard, while there’s an option for 20-inch ones.

The cabin appears to be wide and spacious, thanks to those generous width and wheelbase figures. Features include an 8-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, AR navigation, 8-way adjustable driver seat, dual-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charging, and ADAS such as Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and so on.

The Airtrek is powered by a single electric motor at the front that develops a respectable output of about 135 kW (184 metric hp). A 70 kWh Ternary Lithium battery pack is said to be good for a range of up to 520 km (323 mi) as per CLTC standards. Unsurprisingly, the crossover has a curb weight of 1,900 kg (4,189 lbs).
