Renault Boreal debuts with sculpted styling & flexible options

Renault-Boreal

That’s right, the Renault Boreal is the French version of the Dacia Bigster that debuted at the 90th edition of the 2024 Paris Motor Show in October. The Boreal will go on sale in Latin America, Eastern European countries, and the Middle East.

The design is quite stylish, indeed, with all those sculpted lines and sharp angles. But it doesn’t give off original vibes; I mean, from the front-three-quarter angle, it reminds me of a Hyundai, while the rear-three-quarter reminds me of a Skoda.

This ‘Prestige’ trim is finished in a two-tone paint, and some of the key features include aluminium skid plates, a panoramic sunroof and roof bars, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Built on the CMF-B LS (low specifications) platform, shared with models such as Duster III and Jogger, the Boreal measures 4,556 mm long, 1,841 mm wide without mirrors, 1,650 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,702 mm.

Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the Boreal packs a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine—which depending on the market—will be available as a petrol or a flex fuel (a blend of petrol and ethanol) version. The output figures are up to 122 kW (163 bhp/165 metric hp) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft), depending on the fuel and market. The engine is coupled with a 6-speed wet double clutch transmission. The Boreal is a front-wheel-drive SUV, but depending on the market, AWD may be offered.

Inside, key highlights include a 10-inch digital cluster, an Android OS-based 10-inch central touchscreen, Google’s in-car services, LED mood lighting in 48 colours, USB-C ports, an induction charger, dual-zone climate control, and a Harman Kardon Premium sound system. The vehicle comes with the usual ADAS stuff, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Warning, Occupant Safe Exit Alert, Reverse Cross Traffic Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking System, and Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning.
