It seems like the auto industry, more specifically, the established carmakers are somewhat obsessed with creating sub-brands. Recently, we saw Toyota announcing the Century sub-brand. Now it’s time for Genesis’ Magma sub-brand, billed as a “Luxury High Performance” brand. The first product under this new brand is the GV60 Magma, which of course, is a high-performance variant of the GV60 that went on sale in late 2021. The GV60 Magma will be introduced in its home market of Korea early next year, followed by European and North American markets at a later date.

The GV60 Magma attempts to look high-performance with the help of a sporty bodykit that includes a more aggressive-looking front bumper, canards, a rear wing, slightly wider wheel arches, wheel arch fins, and a rear diffuser. Notice the three slot detail on the side skirts, mimicking the slots at the front. The car rides on Magma-exclusive 21-inch forged wheels wrapped with 275 mm tires. Ride height is lowered by 20 mm. The braking system is upgraded with large front discs gripped by monoblock calipers. The paint finish on the GV60 Magma shown here is called the Magma Orange, and it is unclear if there’ll be other paint options.

The suspension setup has been recalibrated to reduce roll. There are Electronic Control Suspension (ECS) and End-of-Travel (EoT) control systems, which are claimed to deliver an ideal balance of cornering stability and ride comfort. Hydro G-Bushings in the front suspension and dual-layer bushings in the rear crossmember minimize vibrations and impacts.

Moving on to the business end of the story, the GV60 Magma is a dual-motor AWD vehicle. The front and rear motors generate combined figures of 448 kW (609 metric hp) and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft). Of course, there’s a Boost Mode, boosting the numbers to 478 kW (650 metric hp) and 790 Nm (583 lb-ft).

With Boost Mode active, the official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 3.4 seconds. With Launch Control, 0-200 km/h (124 mph) sprint is claimed to happen in 10.9 seconds. The top speed is 264 km/h (164 mph).

The battery pack is an 84 kWh unit, claimed to offer a WLTP range of up to 448 km (278 mi). There’s something called the High-Performance Battery Control (HPBC) to keep the battery health in check and also optimize the battery temperature for peak performance during racing.

The GV60 Magma offers three drive modes: Sprint, GT, and MY. In MY Mode, drivers can customize settings for the electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and other performance parameters. There’s also a Drift Mode for some rear-biased run.

Last but not least, the GV60 Magma features e-ASD (Active Sound Design) and VGS (Virtual Gear Shift). In simple terms, a simulated V8/V6 soundtrack with simulated gearshifts.
