2026 Toyota GRMN Corolla debuts as the ultimate ring-born hot-hatch

The Toyota GR Corolla just got an even hotter sibling called the GRMN Corolla, billed as the ultimate variant in the lineup. The hot hatch will be built at TMC’s Motomachi plant in Japan, and is intended primarily for North America, Japan and Australian markets. Although Toyota doesn’t mention this in the official press release, the production appears to be limited, most likely less than 1,000 units. MSRP will be announced in the coming days.

The GRMN Corolla adopts the learnings from the Super Taikyu series and has been fine-tuned at the Nürburgring. It wears an aggressive carbon fibre aero kit with all the gaps, gapes, intakes, outlets, louvres and a large rear spoiler. The rear spoiler offers a 5-step angle adjustment in 1-degree increments. The hood is also made of carbon fibre. The hot hatch rides on 18-inch matte-bronze 10-spoke forged aluminium wheels wrapped with 245/40 ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.

The GRMN Corolla’s suspension employs exclusive front and rear monotube shock absorbers with rebound springs for improved inner-wheel traction during cornering and for enhanced high-speed cornering performance. Extensive Nürburgring test runs facilitated optimisation of bump-stop characteristics, Toyota says. The EPS (electric power steering) control system and the 4WD control system have also been tuned specifically for the model.

The 1.6L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine pumps out the same 224 kW (304 metric hp/300 bhp), but the torque here is 410 Nm (302 lb-ft), up by 10 Nm. Toyota says that the development team focused on increasing torque in the 4,000–4,600 rpm mid-speed range, which is crucial for accelerating out of corners.

In comparison with the Japanese-spec 2026 GR Corolla RZ, Toyota claims that the kerb weight of the Japanese-spec GRMN Corolla is down by 30 kg (66 lbs): 1,480 kg (3,263 lbs) vs 1,450 kg (3,197 lbs). The American-spec GRMN Corolla weighs 1,460 kg (3,219 lbs).

And of course, one of the measures to cut down weight is to delete the rear seats. As for the front seats, the GRMN Corolla features semi-bucket sport seats upholstered in a combination of black and red Brin Naub suede and synthetic leather. The dashboard features Morizo’s signature, and if you look at the centre console, you’ll notice a GRMN-exclusive serial number plate.
