Bengaluru-based Ather Energy has launched a new variant of Ather 450 electric scooter called ‘450X’. It’ll be available on a new ownership model with an upfront payment of Rs 99,000 plus a monthly subscription charge. The scooter comes in two sub-variants: 450X Plus and 450X Pro, with monthly payments of Rs 1,699 and Rs 1,999, respectively.

For those who want to purchase outright, prices are Rs 149,000 and Rs 159,000 ex-showroom, Bengaluru. The price includes GST and FAME II incentive and excludes insurance, road tax and registration charges. Compared to the standard 450’s current ex-showroom Bengaluru price (Rs 106,926) including 5% GST and FAME subsidy, the 450X commands Rs 42,074 more for the Plus variant and Rs 52,074 more for the Pro variant.

So then, exactly what is new in the Ather 450X? Well, to begin with, it’ll be available in 3 colors: Mint, Grey and White. If I were to pick, I would probably go for the Grey.

The updated 7-inch touchscreen dashboard features a new Snapdragon 212 processor with integrated 4G LTE and a new dark mode. The Android OS-based system comes with Google Maps and the ability to find the nearest charging point. It features Bluetooth connectivity as well.

The 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack on the 450X is a bit larger compared to the 450’s 2.4 kWh pack. The electric motor on the 450X Plus puts out 5.4 kW (7.3 hp) and 22 Nm of torque, while the Pro offers 6 kW (8.15 hp) of peak power and 26 Nm of torque. The latter also gets an additional ‘Warp’ mode where a 0-40 km/h acceleration is claimed to happen in 3.3 seconds. Also, the 450X weighs 3 kg less (108 kg) compared to the regular 450. The 450X’s projected Indian Drive Cycle (IDC) range is 116 km while the real-world range is said to be 85 km in city conditions. The 450X is also claimed to charge 50% faster than before at 1.5 km per minute.

With Ather 450, we wanted to build a vehicle that breaks the mould of what an EV can do in India. Over the last year and a half, the scooters on the road have provided tremendous data and our online community is active with thousands of members. With over 6 million KM of on-road data from our existing riders and the invaluable feedback from our community, we have built Ather 450X which raises the bar on almost every key metric. – Tarun Mehta, co-founder & CEO

Ather currently produces the scooters at its facility in Whitefield, Bengaluru. The company has also signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to build a new 400,000 sq ft facility in Hosur, outskirts of Bengaluru.
