The second-generation Aston Martin Vantage has now got a convertible sibling, with prices starting from £126,950 in the UK, €157,300 in Germany and $161,000 in United States. The highlight is its z-fold convertible roof, claimed to be the fastest of any automotive automatic convertible system.

The tailored fabric roof takes 6.7 seconds to lower and 6.8 seconds to raise and can be operated at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph). Aston Martin says that the luggage space has a minimal impact thanks to low stack height. The boot capacity of 200-litres is enough to stow a full-sized golf bag and accessories.

As part of the Vantage nameplate’s 70th Anniversary celebrations, the company is offering ‘vane’ grille as an option, available on both Coupe and Roadster as an alternative to the track-inspired ‘hunter’ grille featured on the Coupe from its launch in 2018. There is also a new range of optional alloy wheel designs.

The AMG-sourced 4.0-litre V8 biturbo powers the Vantage Roadster, producing 510 metric hp (375 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 685 Nm (505 lb-ft) of torque between 2,000-5,000 rpm, paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. A 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration is claimed to happen in 3.8 seconds while the top speed is 306 km/h (190 mph).

The Roadster weighs 1,628 kg/3,589 lbs dry (inclusive of lightweight options), which is 98 kg (216 lbs) more than the Coupe’s dry weight with lightweight options.

The bonus news is that the 7-speed manual transmission which was offered only with the limited edition Vantage AMR, is now available as an option on the Coupe.

The Vantage Roadster is available to order now; deliveries will begin Q2 2020.
