Lamborghini Sián Roadster debuts with the same hybrid power

Lamborghini’s first hybrid hypercar, the Sián FKP 37, has now got the Roadster version. Before you go grab your cheque book, I should tell you that all 19 units have already been sold.

Just like any Aventador Roadster, the Sián Roadster too is not a convertible with an electrically operated soft-top. The roof panels need to be manually removed and stowed away somewhere. The example here is finished in a new color called Blu Uranus – representing the blue sky, complemented by wheels finished in Oro Electrum – a color that signifies electrification.

The Roadster borrows pretty much everything else from its Coupe sibling, including all the technologies and the powertrain. The iconic 6.5L naturally aspirated V12 powerplant is combined with an electric motor for additional boost, delivering a total of 602 kW (818 hp). Unlike other 48-volt mild-hybrid applications, the 34 hp e-motor here also supports low-speed maneuvers such as reversing and parking.

Located in the bulkhead between the cockpit and engine is a supercapacitor, which is claimed to be capable of storing 10 times the power of a lithium-ion battery. The electric system with the supercapacitor and e-motor weighs only 34 kg (75 lbs) – delivering a weight-to-power ratio of 1.0 kg/hp. The Roadster’s weight-to-power ratio is 2.0 kg/hp (SVJ 63 Roadster for comparison: 2.05 kg/hp).

The Sián Roadster is claimed to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 2.9 seconds – almost the same as the Coupe. The top speed is also claimed to be the same of over 350 km/h (217 mph).
