Maruti Suzuki eVX electric SUV concept debuts at Auto Expo

India’s largest carmaker (by volume and market share) Maruti Suzuki unveiled the eVX electric SUV concept at the 2023 Auto Expo near Delhi. The name ‘eVX’ is short for “Emotional Versatile Cruiser”, and the vehicle is being developed in collaboration with Suzuki’s good friend Toyota. Which means you can expect a Toyota version as well when the production eVX actually hits the market. Suzuki’s India subsidiary Maruti Suzuki has been trying to enter the electric vehicle segment in the country for quite a while now, but for some reason, it has not happened (yet).

But now that it has Toyota on its side, an all-electric Maruti Suzuki might actually happen. As mentioned already, we are looking at an SUV/crossover, with styling elements that remind us of many other vehicles—as has been the case with Marutis—the design never looked unique. The eVX concept looks more like a Toyota concept rather than a Suzuki concept, which I guess is fine—for obvious reasons.

The production model (if it really happens this time) is gonna be about the size (L x W x H: 4,300 mm x 1,800 mm x 1,600 mm) of the Hyundai Creta/Kia Seltos, which means you can expect generous space for at least 4 people and their stuff. Since it is 2023 already, you can expect a good amount of creature comforts, connected car features and a long list of safety-related items as well.

The production model is expected to pack a 60 kWh battery pack with an estimated range of about 550 km (342 mi). It remains to be seen if the SUV is gonna be offered in front/rear/all-wheel-drive, or with all the said options.
