Citroen has updated its e-C4 and e-C4 X for 2024 with a new electric motor and battery combination, offering—you guessed it—more power and range. But do note that these higher numbers are available only on the Shine trim at launch. Which means the lesser trims will offer the existing 100 kW (136 metric hp) powertrain. Prices in France for the e-C4 Shine trim with 115 kW (156 metric hp) powertrain starts at €44,600, which is €1,000 more than the e-C4 Shine trim with the aforementioned 100 kW powertrain. Its e-C4 X counterpart carries a price tag of €45,300.
This higher-performance variant is a combination of a 115 kW (156 metric hp) electric motor and a 54 kWh battery pack. In addition to offering 4 kWh more, this battery pack has different chemical percentages. Instead of 60% nickel, 20% manganese and 20% cobalt, the new pack boasts a higher nickel ratio (80% nickel, 10% manganese and 10% cobalt), which is said to offer improved energy density and longer battery life.
And, thanks to this new battery pack, Citroen claims a WLTP combined range of up to 420 km (261 mi), which is 60 km (37 mi) more than the one with a 50 kWh pack.
Among the measures taken to increase the efficiency of the battery and motor include a heat pump—which uses a humidity sensor to maximize the energy efficiency of heating and cooling, and 18-inch “A+” tyres that reduce rolling resistance and minimize energy loss through friction.
