2026 Renault Twingo E-Tech debuts with an expressive design

The Renault Twingo has returned for the 4th-generation, but it is not classified as such because it is now the Twingo E-Tech. It is a generation of its own, apparently, since it is all-electric. Yes, there was a Twingo Electric, but the new one is exclusively electric. Prices are expected to start under €20,000, and the sales are expected to commence in early 2026.

The design of the Twingo E-Tech, as some of you can probably tell, was inspired by the first-gen Twingo, suggesting a new beginning for the nameplate. Those lights look goofy, yes, but considering that most EVs look boring and generic these days with full-width lightbars, I’d rather have the goofy ones. The design lends the car a lot of character, and I think anyone would recognize it from a distance.

The A-segment supermini is built on the AmpR Small platform, the one that is also shared with the Renault 4 and Renault 5. The Twingo E-Tech measures 3,790 mm in length, which is longer than all three predecessors, but is still fairly compact. With the new ‘E-Tech’ suffix, you’d think that the new model is gonna be a rear-wheel-drive. Nope. It’s not just the design team that went back to the 1st-gen model for inspiration; it appears that the engineering team also went back to the 1st-gen model. I think it’s a missed opportunity to combine the attributes of the 1st-gen and the 3rd-gen model, but who am I to judge, I guess.

But anyway, the Twingo E-Tech’s front electric motor makes 59 kW (80 metric hp) and 175 Nm (129 lb-ft). Not too shabby for a city supermini, I guess. A 27.5 kWh battery pack is estimated to offer a WLTP range of up to 263 km (163 mi).

The interior is designed to maximize as much usable space as possible. There are plenty of storage spaces in addition to a 360-litre boot (with rear seats folded). Other key highlights include a welcome sequence by Jean-Michel Jarre, a 7-inch digital cluster, a 10-inch Android-based infotainment system with Google integrated, and up to 24 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
