2026 Tata Sierra debuts with a Red Dot Design Award

The third-gen Sierra, Tata Motors’ next big thing, is all set to go on sale on 25th November, and according to reports, dealers are unofficially accepting bookings for a token amount of INR 11,000. The new Sierra, according to the company’s official statement, “is not a replica of the past, but a re-interpretation of its soul, a bridge between heritage and the future”. It is billed as a halo product, one that leads the next chapter of the company’s design.

Indeed, the new Sierra looks fantastic in terms of design, doesn’t it? I think Martin Uhlarik‘s team has done a fantastic job in blending the original Sierra’s signature elements with the contemporary design language and practicality. What makes mimicking the large side window of the original model appear fairly realistic is those flush-fit door handles. When viewed from the three-quarter angles, the new Sierra almost looks like a 3-door model.

Another styling element worth noting is the front light bar (dubbed Light Saber), which is mimicked at the rear. The main headlights are cleverly concealed within that dark fascia. I guess the Red Dot Design Award was fairly well deserved. But anyway, the example in the photos here is riding on rather large 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, things look clean, minimalistic, and of course, very, very airy, thanks to that XXL-sized glass roof. In addition to a digital cluster and a touchscreen, there’s a passenger display as well, as is the trend these days. Notice that gray-ish thing underneath the central air vents? Well, that’s a soundbar, part of the JBL 12-speaker audio system.

What powers the new Sierra? Well.. this is where things can be a bit disappointing. You see, the original Sierra was either a rear-wheel-drive or a four-wheel-drive. This new thing will most likely be a front-wheel-drive, just like its Harrier-Safari duo siblings. Mind you, the original Safari was RWD or 4WD. However, the Sierra EV might offer an AWD option, just like the Harrier EV.
