All-electric Jaguar I-Pace is a game changer

So, this is the production version Jaguar I-Pace, and it’s already available to order in Europe. It carries a price tag of £63,495 in the UK (excluding government incentives). The concept was first unveiled back in November 2016, and Jaguar has taken less than two years to get to this point.

The I-Pace can be a game changer because the all-electric SUVs from other European competitors such as Mercedes, VW Group and BMW are still in a concept or prototype form. Which means, the I-Pace is the only luxury electric SUV from Europe right now, to compete against an established name in the EV business, the Tesla.

As for the design, the production I-Pace looks nearly identical to the concept. According to Jaguar, the coupe-like silhouette is influenced by the C-X75 supercar, which never made it to production. Nonetheless, it’s good to see the design cues integrated into a production car.

The I-Pace is an all-wheel drive SUV with two electric motors, one on each axle, developing a total of 400 PS and 696 Nm of torque, enough to propel the I-Pace from 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.

The 90 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack is capable of delivering a claimed range of 480 km (WLTP). The battery pack uses 432 pouch cells instead of cylindrical cells. As for the charging times, up to 80% can be achieved in 40 minutes using DC rapid charging. Normal charging can take more than 10 hours. Also, Jaguar is offering an 8-year battery warranty.
