Volvo C40 Recharge is getting a single-motor variant

The all-electric Volvo XC40 Recharge got a single-motor front-wheel-drive variant recently, and now it’s time for its coupe sibling, the C40 Recharge, to join the ranks. Volvo however, is yet to share exactly when this new model will go on sale; most likely in the coming months.

Obviously, the front-wheel-drive C40 Recharge packs a single electric motor on the front axle, offering 170 kW (231 metric hp) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque. The horsepower is more than half of what you get in the AWD variant, which is a good thing. A 69 kWh (67 kWh usable) battery pack is estimated to offer a WLTP range of up to 434 km (270 mi) on a single charge. Not a huge range benefit when compared with AWD C40 Recharge’s estimated WLTP range of around 420 km (261 mi), but let’s see how markets respond.

The slightly smaller battery pack is claimed to be capable of getting juiced up from 10 to 80% in about 32 minutes (40 min for the larger one) on a fast-charging system.
