As you might know, the range-topping variant of the Lucid Air currently is the 828 kW (1,126 metric hp/1,111 bhp) Dream Edition Performance which slots above the 696 kW (946 metric hp/933 bhp) Dream Edition. But as you might also know, reservations remain closed for the Dream Edition models. But don’t worry, a new limited edition model is coming up called the Lucid Air Sapphire, with reservations commencing on Tuesday (23rd Aug 2022) at 9 AM PT. The Sapphire is priced at US$ 249,000 in the U.S. and CAD 325,000 in Canada. Deliveries are expected to commence sometime next year.

So, what’s this Lucid Air Sapphire all about? Well, will get to its juicy bits in just a minute or two, but let’s talk about its looks for a minute, shall we? The exterior of the car is painted in Sapphire Blue, a vibrant color inspired by Benitoite—a rare stone mined in a location just south of Lucid’s HQ in California. The blue is tastefully contrasted with dark elements. Another small but important detail found throughout the Air Sapphire is the Lucid bear logo; the bear also represents California.

Inside, the Air Sapphire boasts a new Sapphire Mojave theme, with new highly bolstered 18-way power-adjustable sport seats upholstered in Lucid Black leather trimmed with black Alcantara and Sapphire Blue contrast stitching. The seats still offer decadent comfort, with heating, cooling, and massage functionality. The displays feature model-specific menus and graphics, and of course, there’s also a new Sapphire Mode, which apparently helps the driver extract every ounce of performance the car has to offer.

Which then brings us to the juicy bits of the story. The Air Sapphire packs a three-motor powertrain; meaning, there are two motors at the rear and a single motor at the front, which are claimed to deliver a combined power output of 895 kW (1,217 metric hp/1,200 bhp), making it not only the most powerful electric four-door sedan ever produced but also the most powerful four-door sedan in the world. The official 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) sprint time is estimated to be less than two seconds.

“Sapphire represents the pinnacle of electric performance, finally achieving the performance that I’ve so long searched for. After painstaking development work, I am able to confirm Lucid Air Sapphire has achieved a satisfactory performance, and I trust the most discerning drivers will agree,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO & CTO of Lucid Motors and former Engineer of the Tesla Model S.
