The updated Seat Ateca is now joined by its performance sibling, the Cupra Ateca. The hot SUV gets Cupra-specific visual upgrades in addition to a 2.0L TSI motor.

The visual upgrades begin with a sporty front bumper with dark aluminium inserts, honeycomb upper grille with a dark chrome frame, side mouldings in dark aluminium finish, dark aluminium roof rails and the wing mirrors also in a glossy dark aluminium finish. The example here features the optional Akrapovič exhaust system with quad tailpipes.

Rounding off the visual upgrades are 19-inch machined alloy wheels finished in Sport Black & Copper. Buyers can choose from 6 different alloy wheel designs. The options list also includes Brembo performance brakes in Copper.

Things have been kept subtle on the inside with a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel with Copper accents, large shift paddles, standard bucket seats, aluminium pedals, and dark aluminium details. The Genuine Cupra option gets electrically-adjustable leather bucket seats in Petrol Blue and leather door panels.

The rest of the features and technologies have been carried over from the regular Ateca such as the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit, 9.2-inch infotainment system, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

The Cupra button on the progressive steering gives access to different drive modes: a short press scrolls through Normal, Sport, Cupra and Individual, while a long press takes you directly to the Cupra mode.

The hot SUV also gets the Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) that constantly makes changes depending on the driving style and road conditions.

Powering the Cupra Ateca is a 2.0-litre (1,984 cc) 4-cylinder TSI engine, producing 221 kW (300 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque – same as the T-Roc R. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and 4Drive AWD system.

A 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint is claimed to happen in 4.9 seconds. The top speed is 247 km/h (153 mph).
