Volvo Cars has issued a quiet recall for a total of 40,323 EX30 compact crossovers as it believes the battery packs may catch fire due to overheating. The cars manufactured between 2024 and early 2026 are part of this recall. At the time of publishing this story, there are no reported incidents involving an EX30, but a couple of years ago, a C40 Recharge caught fire in North India.
Nonetheless, the EX30 owners have been advised to get the battery pack replaced ASAP (free of charge), while limiting charging to 70% to prevent overheating. What’s more interesting is that the owners have also been reportedly advised to park their EX30 away from buildings and other vehicles.
The battery cells are made by Shandong Geely Sunwoda Power Battery Co., which, as the name suggests, is a JV between Geely and Sunwoda. The replacement cells will also be supplied by the same JV, but reportedly, these cells won’t have the same issue.
