Jaguar Type 01 debuts with DEI darkness

Jaguar’s DEI drama has a new update in the form of the production version of the Type 00 concept. It’s called the Type 01, billed as the most powerful Jaguar road car ever, among other things. Order books are expected to open in early 2027, followed by deliveries in the second half. According to reports, the base price starts at around £130,000.

The production version still looks very conceptish, but there are noticeable changes such as rear doors, flush-fit door handles, traditional ORVMs, and traditional charging flaps. However, the rear windscreen continues to be deleted, and it is compensated for by a sharkfin-integrated camera. It remains to be seen how the lack of a rear windscreen affects the rear seat experience; I’d assume it’s gonna feel a bit claustrophobic despite the presence of a large glass roof. But anyways, Jaguar claims the Type 01 to be the most aerodynamic Jag ever, with a drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd. By the way, many on the internet agree that the silhouette gives off Chrysler 300 and Cadillac Celestiq vibes.

As for active aero bits, the front end has active vanes that open when cooling is needed, while the rear end has a deployable spoiler. As for dimensions, the Type 01 is quite a large vehicle, measuring 5,235 mm long, 2,021 mm wide and 1,403 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,200 mm. It rides on gigantic 23-inch wheels. What’s more interesting, or rather DEI, is that despite being over 5.2 metre long, all-electric, and having such a longass bonnet, there’s no frunk! Can you effin believe that?! Things can’t get more DEI than that, can they?

As we all know, the Type 01 is an all-electric grand tourer, packing not two, but three electric motors (one at the front and two at the back). The combined peak output figures are 757 kW (1,030 metric hp) and 1,365 Nm (1,007 lb-ft), making it the most powerful road-going Jaguar ever. The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 3.2 seconds.

Those three motors draw juice from a 118 kW 850-volt battery pack estimated to deliver a WLTP range of up to 724 km (420 mi). If you find a 350 kW DC fast charger, Jaguar claims a possibliy of 320+ km (200 mi) range in about 13 minutes.

Inside, things look minimalistic but also rather claustrophobic/tight as mentioned earlier. It’s a shame that such a large vehicle doesn’t offer a sense of space. But anyway, some of the key highlights include a 24-inch OLED display, a 7-inch secondary display in the middle, hot stone massaging function for first-row seats, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity, 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, Meridian audio system, and a so-called Panoramic Soundbar. The display in the middle of the Soundbar is for the rear camera that is compensating for the lack of a windscreen.
