New ŠKODA Rapid 2017

Skoda has launched the much-awaited Rapid facelift in India, with prices starting at Rs 8.35 lakh, ex-showroom, Maharashtra. While the bookings for the new model have started for Rs 25,000, dealers across the country are reportedly offering discounts of up to Rs 1 lakh to clear off the outgoing model. Below are the variant-wise prices, all are ex-showroom, MH.

Active Ambition Style
1.6 MPI Manual 8,34,906 9,26,778 10,44,163
1.6 MPI 6 Speed Auto 10,38,841 11,46,187
1.5 TDI Manual 9,57,335 10,49,157 11,66,590
1.5 TDI 7 Speed DSG 11,71,471 12,78,590

Exterior wise, the changes are mainly on the front fascia. The facelift adopts Skoda’s “crystalline design language”, which Skoda says inspired by traditional Bohemian crystals. At the front, there’s the signature Skoda butterfly grille with chrome outlining, new “Quartz-cut” projector headlamps with “Jewel-shadow” LED DRLs, new bumper design with honeycomb grille, and last but not the least, trapezoidal shape fog lamps. Overall, the design is more sharper and somewhat reminds of its big brother Octavia.

The side profile remains largely unchanged, except for the subtle chrome application on the door handles (à la VW Vento). There are a new 15-inch “Matone” alloy wheels.

Changes on the rear are subtle with smoked taillamps, redesigned bumper, chrome lining on the boot lid (à la VW Vento), and a small integrated spoiler.

New ŠKODA Rapid - interior

The dual-tone interior layout has been retained with minor tweaks and subtle chrome touches. Feature list includes automatic climate control, 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, height and length adjustable steering wheel, electrically foldable mirrors, all one-touch power windows, amber glow footwell illumination, leatherette lined armrest and some more. On the safety front, it gets dual front airbags and ABS as standard. The automatic variants get Hill Hold Control and ESC as well. Boot space is measured at 460 litres.

The biggest change is perhaps the introduction of a 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine from the Ameo, which makes 110 PS and 250 Nm of torque. This can be had either with a 5-speed manual or 7-speed DSG gearbox. The petrol is the same 1.6-litre naturally aspirated MPI from the outgoing model producing 105 PS and 153 Nm of torque. This petrol variant can be had either with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel efficiency is claimed at 15.41 km/l and 14.84 km/l for petrol manual and petrol automatic, respectively, and 21.72 km/l and 21.13 km/l for the diesel automatic and diesel manual, respectively.

Skoda offers a 4-year service care program as standard on all Skoda models. The program includes a 4-year warranty and 4-year roadside assistance program. In addition, customers can also purchase a 4-year service package for Rs 29,999.
