Nissan NX8 goes on sale in China

The Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture has launched the NX8, the third model in Nissan’s N Series, in the Chinese market. Prices start at CNY 159,900 ($23,500 or €20,000). Unlike the N6, which is a PHEV, and the N7, which is a BEV, the NX8 is available as a BEV or a range-extended EV.

The NX8 adopts a similar design language as its sedan siblings with so-called Eagle Eye headlights and OLED taillights. It falls into the mid-size category, measuring 4,870 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width and 1,680 mm in height. Wheelbase is a fairly generous 2,917 mm. Some of the other key exterior features include active grille shutters and 20-inch N-shaped wheels with Michelin tyres (depending on the variant). A panoramic glass roof is a standard affair.

The range-extender models pack a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine rated at 109 kW (148 metric hp) and 225 Nm (166 lb-ft). The electric motor at the rear is rated at 195 kW (265 metric hp) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft). The battery pack size varies depending on the variant, and the largest is a 43.2 kWh, supplied by CATL, claiming to offer a CLTC pure electric range of up to 310 km (193 mi) and a combined range of up to 1,450 km (901 mi).

As for pure electric models, there are two options. The lesser variant offers 215 kW (292 metric hp) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft), packing a 73 kWh 400-volt Sunwoda battery, offering a CLTC range of up to 580 km (360 mi). The top-spec variant offers 250 kW (340 metric hp) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft), packing an 81 kWh CATL 800-volt battery, offering a CLTC range of up to 650 km (404 mi). The top-spec model also boasts an official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 6.7 seconds.

Key highlights inside include Zero Gravity 2.0 seats with massage functionalities, power-reclining rear seats with ventilation, heating and massage, dual 15.6-inch displays, an augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), AI voice assistant, motion sickness prevention technology, onboard refrigerator/freezer, Pet Protection Mode, and all the usual ADAS.
