Toyota’s luxury marque Lexus has come up with a gorgeous flagship coupe – the LC 500 and the LC 500h (hybrid). Based on the LF-LC concept, the LC 500 has retained most of the exterior design cues, according to Lexus, the design theme is called “seduction and technology”.
The LC 500 is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.0 litre V8, producing 471 hp @ 7,100 rpm and 540 Nm of torque @ 4,800 rpm, mated to a direct shift 10-speed automatic transmission. Lexus says its the first time such transmission to be featured in a luxury car. 0 to 60 mph happens within 4.5 seconds.
The LC 500h on the other hand is powered by a 3.5 litre V6 petrol-electric hybrid powertrain with Multi Stage Hybrid System. Total output of this system is 354 hp and 348 Nm, and is mated to a 10 Speed CVT auto. Lexus says, the Multi Stage Hybrid System amplifies engine and motor output, thanks to a new multi stage shift device, which changes the output in four stages in order to utilize the engine speeds across the whole speed range. This creates a system that responds much more directly to driver inputs and achieves a higher level of dynamic performance and driving pleasure, while maintaining the smoothness and efficiency.
Both LC 500 and LC 500h have rear-wheel drive configuration. Reportedly, Lexus is coming to India next year with 3 models – RX 450h and LX 450d SUVs and the ES 300h sedan.
