If media reports are to be believed, French car maker Peugeot might return to India with CK Birla Group. The PSA Group is currently in talks with the aforementioned Delhi based conglomerate for a manufacturing venture, reported Les Echos – a French daily.

According to its report, a joint venture deal has been signed for an assembly plant in Chennai with an annual production capacity of 12,000 vehicles. Although there is no official word yet, Peugeot’s CEO Carlos Tavares had expressed his interest to enter the Indian market by 2018 in Paris last year.

Peugeot had earlier partnered with Premier Ltd. (formerly The Premier Automobiles Limited or PAL), and sold few thousand units of Peugeot 309, before pulling out of the venture in 2001 due to labour issues and poor dealer service resulting in huge losses.
