Audi’s all-electric e-tron Sportback concept debuts at the Auto Shanghai 2017. The e-tron Sportback is Audi’s first all-electric crossover, and is an evolution of the e-tron Quattro showcased at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The concept’s front fascia is all about LED technology. Besides the full Matrix LED set up both at the front and the rear, the front bumper features 250 LEDs on each side which create animation and specific communicative signs, while on the move. Even the four-ring logo is a full LED setup. Words can’t explain its crazy LEDs, watch the video below.

Moving on to the powertrain, there is one electric motor on the front axle and two on the rear, powering all four wheels, transforming the coupé into a quattro in a typical Audi style. The 320 kW (429 hp) of power can even reach 370 kW (496) in the boost mode, propelling the coupe-SUV from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in just 4.5 seconds. The 95 kilowatt-hour battery pack is good for over 500 km (310.7 miles) (NEDC). The battery is positioned between the axles below the passenger compartment, giving a low center of gravity and a balanced axle load distribution of 52:48 (front/rear).

Audi designers also adopt a new tack for the air flow through the front lid. Above its front section, which dips deeply at the front, a bridge running parallel with the nose connects the two wheel arches and also doubles up as an air deflector.

The crossover measures 4.90 metres in length, 1.98 meters in width and 1.53 meters in height. Wheelbase measures 2.93 meters. Wheels are a large 23-inch ones.

The production version of this electric SUV will appear on the market in 2018, and the “Coupe” version what we just saw, is planned for 2019. Expected to take on the Jaguar I-Pace.

Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG, said, “Our Audi e-tron will be starting out in 2018 – the first electric car in its competitive field that is fit for everyday use. With a range of over 500 kilometers (310.7 miles) and the special electric driving experience, we will make this sporty SUV the must-have product of the next decade. Following close on its heels, in 2019, comes the production version of the Audi e-tron Sportback – an emotional coupé version that is thrillingly identifiable as an electric car at the very first glance.”
