The smart brand has returned with the 5th-gen ultra-compact urban two-seater, and this time it has a hashtag for some reason. Order books are open in certain markets for the smart #2, with prices starting at €19,990 (including VAT) in Germany. There are multiple variants to choose from:
| Variant | German Price (including VAT) |
| Pure | €19,990 |
| Pure+ | €20,990 |
| Premium | €24,490 |
| Couture Edition | €25,690 |
The Couture Edition is limited to 999 units for the European markets and comes with a few visual enhancements. It comes finished in Atelier White Matte and Platinum Gold dual-tone exterior paint, complemented by 16-inch Lyra rims with gold details. A glass roof is also included as standard.
The smart 2 is slightly bigger than its predecessor, measuring 2,746 mm long and 1,760 mm wide. The height and wheelbase, however, remain nearly identical, measuring 1,555 mm and 1,875 mm, respectively. Boot capacity is claimed to be 305 litres, which is not bad for a micro-car.
That dashboard gives off 3rd-gen Audi A3 vibes, but maybe that’s just me. Anyways, key highlights inside, depending on the variant, include a 10.1-inch central touchscreen, an 8.8-inch driver display, 4G connectivity, heated man-made leather seats, wireless smartphone charging, ambient lighting, and a 7-speaker Sennheiser Sound System. ADAS include smart Pilot Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop & Go and Highway Assist.
The smart #2 is built around a new monocoque called the Tridion Cell Evo, billed as a robust and safe structure. The micro-car continues to be rear-wheel-drive. The rear electric motor develops peak figures of 60 kW (82 metric hp) and 130 Nm (96 lb-ft), which are more than adequate for this application. As for the official performance figures, if you’re interested in those sorts of things, the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 11.6 seconds and the top speed is 140 km/h (87 mph). A 35.8 kWh LFP pack is estimated to offer a WLTP combined range of up to 290 km (180 mi). The battery pack can support up to 65 kW DC fast charging.
