Nissan is working on the second-generation Leaf electric car, scheduled to be revealed globally later this year. Ever since its launch back in 2010, the Leaf has been a popular five-door electric hatch in Japan, US and European markets, and Nissan says there are over 260,000 of them on the road globally.

The second-generation model will take the design cues from the IDS Concept that was showcased at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Show. Besides being an EV, the IDS Concept also had certain autonomous functionalities. At the moment, there is no information whether the Leaf will have any autonomous capabilities.

Few reports claim that the new Leaf will have a range of over 500 km with 60 kWh battery pack. Nissan is expected to have a full reveal at the IAA 2017 (International Motor Show Germany) in September.

As for the Indian market, Nissan might consider the Leaf for 2018. There’s lot of interest for practical electric cars in India. Don’t believe me? Watch the Renault Zoe video below. I drove the Zoe last year and to my surprise, it has generated a lot of interest in Indians. Oh BTW, excuse the shakiness in the video below, i totally forgot my stabilizer that day.
