The new Hyundai Verna has been launched in India at Rs 7.99 lakh, and its time to take an in-depth look at its features.

To begin with, the new Verna has grown in size. The vehicle now measures 4,440 mm in length (65 mm longer) and 1,729 mm in width (29 mm wider). The increased length translates into 30 mm longer wheelbase at 2,600 mm. However, the height has been retained at 1,475 mm.

Body Structure

Hyundai said that the new Verna is safer than before, thanks to the ‘Super Body Structure’ frame built out of 50% Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS). The body has got Hot stamping Applications ensuring Best-in-Class rigidity. The structure ensures adequate weight control, enhancing both performance and fuel efficiency.

Multiple measures have been taken to contain NVH to barely perceptible traces such as engine and transmission mount design change, implementation of tunnel insulator, extensive application of foam filler in cavity etc, said the company.

Ride and Handling
Hyundai promises a superior ride and handling for the new Verna. The rear suspension geometry has been modified for stable and comfortable ride for rear passengers by vertical angle of rear shock absorbers and coil springs on the coupled torsion beam axle. The standard Motor-Driven Power Steering System (MDPS) has been tweaked to provide superior feedback while cornering and at high speeds. The front wheel caster angle has been modified to further enhance the steering feedback to the driver at Highway speeds.

Powertrains
The new Verna gets a choice of 1.6-litre petrol and diesel units. The 1591 cc 4-cylinder petrol produces 123 PS (121 hp) @ 6400 rpm and 151 Nm of torque @ 4,850 rpm. The diesel is a 1582 cc 4-cylinder VGT, with an output of 128 PS (126 hp) @ 4000 rpm and 260 Nm of torque @ 1500 – 3000 rpm. Transmission options are 6-speed manual or 6-speed auto.
