Kia Niro Hybrid gets refreshed for 2020

Kia Motors America (KMA) has updated the Niro Hybrid crossover for 2020. It’s a mid-cycle refresh that includes new projector headlights and fog lamps, new diamond-pattern grille and dual chevron-shaped LED DRLs.

At the rear, the faux skid plate is wider and more pronounced and the LED combination lights have been refreshed as well. Also, there are new 16-inch and 18-inch alloy wheel designs.

The interiors are yet to be revealed. However, Kia said that there’s a re-styled 7-inch instrument cluster with improved drive mode graphics and an 8-inch standard touchscreen display, or optional navigation with a 10.25-inch screen and Harman Kardon premium audio system. Options include paddle shifters, electronic parking brake, and mood lighting with 6 different colors.

Enhancing the Niro’s full suite of available Kia Drive Wise Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are newly added Lane Following & Lane Keeping Assist and High Beam Assist.

Powertrain and capacities remain unchanged from the outgoing model. The Niro Hybrid is powered by a 1.6-litre (1,580 cc) 4-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor. The ICE produces 104 hp at 5,700 rpm and 109 lb.-ft. (148 Nm) of torque at 4,000 rpm. The electric motor offers 43 hp between 1,800-2,500 rpm and 125 lb.-ft. (170 Nm) of torque from 0-1,800 rpm. The battery pack is of 1.56 kWh capacity.

Transmission is a 6-speed DCT. The total system output is 139 hp at 5,700 rpm and 195 lb.-ft. (264 Nm) of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The 2020 Niro Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) too will receive identical enhancements. Pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
