Update: Toyota C-HR EV now on sale in China

Although Toyota is a pioneer in hybrid technology, the company was never really keen on producing battery electric vehicles (BEV), because the strong HEV sales kept them going that way. However, that could change with the arrival of the C-HR EV.

It is Toyota’s first BEV in a long time. I’m saying the “first BEV in a long time” because Toyota produced RAV4 EV until 2014 (sold only in California, United States).

The C-HR EV made its debut in China in April 2019 and is expected to go on sale in April 2020, amidst the global health crisis.

The styling changes for the C-HR EV are typical and obvious. The front fascia has closed surfaces with small gaps to let the air through, while the rest of the car appears to be pretty much the same as the ICE-powered C-HR. The wheels appear to be aerodynamically optimized, shod with some high profile tyres.

Inside, the Power button has a subtle Blue tint to it. The example here features White upholstery that contrasts against the all-Black theme.

As for the technical information, according to reports, the C-HR EV is powered by a single electric motor that puts out 150 kW (204 hp), drawing juice from a floor-mounted 54.3 kWh battery pack.

No further information is available just yet.
