When it comes to performance electric motorcycles, there aren’t many options yet, understandably. But, that might change in a year or two as more companies start working on new projects. Triumph has been working on an electric motorcycle project since 2019 and the company has now shared the phase 2 update on the same. This time, we get to see the design of the first prototype motorcycle called TE 1 and also its compact powertrain module.

While the motorcycle is still on papers, the powertrain module exists in a physical form. The Project TE-1 is a collaboration between Williams Advanced Engineering, Integral Powertrain and the University of Warwick. The team at Williams is responsible for developing a cutting-edge, lightweight battery design, and an innovative battery management system combined with the vehicle control unit. The folks at Integral are developing a bespoke, compact electric motor, and a silicon carbide inverter, integrating both into a single housing. The University of Warwick is providing whatever expertise they could, including R&D, modeling and simulation.

The project is supported by the UK Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) via Innovate UK agency. According to Triumph’s Chief Product Officer Steve Sargent, the Project TE-1 is all about developing a platform for Triumph’s future electric vehicles.
