Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing offers carbon aero packages for lots of downforce

Cadillac is offering optional carbon fibre packages on the 2022 CT4-V Blackwing that are claimed to produce the highest downforce ever in a Cadillac V-Series production car. Apparently, the aero packages were inspired by the multiple championship-winning Cadillac Racing DPi-V.R race car.

Cadillac said that these aero elements were refined using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics and were put through 500 hours of wind tunnel testing. The aero components include front splitter; front dive planes; model-specific front grille with each V tuned to optimize airflow; fender vents; underbody air strakes; flat underbody panels; a rear spoiler with a 3 mm Gurney flap, and rear control arm covers to prevent air from building up around rear wheel well. The carbon fibre package #2 includes rocker extensions and a rear diffuser.

With the CT4-V Blackwing, we create net downforce that is incredibly rare in production vehicles. What this means is that the car gets pressed down into the road the faster you go, giving it more grip, greater stability and inspiring the driver to confidently explore its full capabilities. — Tony Roma, Chief Engineer, Cadillac V-Series Blackwing

Of course, to take full advantage of those aero bits, the CT4-V Blackwing packs a 3.6L twin-turbo V6 petrol engine that pumps out 352 kW (478 metric hp) and 603 Nm (445 lb-ft) of torque. A high-performance braking system, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, and 4th gen Magnetic Ride Control further complement the performance sedan.
