Subaru lineup at 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon includes a 1,000+ hp electric racer

Subaru-STI-E-RA-concept

Subaru has unveiled a bunch of concepts at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon, which includes an all-electric racing car and a customized Solterra. But the important thing to note is that all these concepts wear STI badges. For the uninitiated, the STI for Subaru is what GR is for Toyota, AMG is for Mercedes, M is for BMW and so on.

The first concept is this smiley-faced STI E-RA, an electric race car that might take part in the upcoming FIA Electric GT Championship (FIA E-GT). But prior to any of that, Subaru intends to achieve a Nürburgring lap time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds with this car next year. The STI E-RA has got four electric motors (from Yamaha), one for each wheel, producing a combined 800 kW (1,088 metric hp). The motors draw juice from a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Since it has got one motor per wheel, it boasts a unique torque vectoring system.

The all-electric Solterra and the second-gen BRZ are also wearing generous STI performance parts; the latter is christened BRZ STI Performance. While the cherry red looks rather ricey in the Solterra, the BRZ sports ’em in a subtle, tasteful way.

Also on showcase are the WRX S4 STI Performance and Levorg STI Performance concepts, with both generously wearing STI parts and cherry red accents. Both are based on the Sport R grades.

Last but not the least, we have the BRZ GT300, the actual race car that won the 2021 series championship in the GT300 class.
