Genesis GV80 Coupe concept shows off its G-Matrix strut brace

These days, when you launch a new SUV, you gotta offer a complete package with a good number of options right from the outset. I mean, if you take the Kia Seltos in India for example, the company offered multiple engine options—right at launch, all with a choice of an automatic or a manual transmission, which resulted in a blockbuster success of the product and the brand subsequently achieving over 6% market share in a short period of time. Hyundai Motor Group has learned that for a brand to achieve success, you gotta offer more options.

And so, the Genesis GV80 SUV which has been on sale in some markets since late 2020, is now getting a coupe sibling, because of course, a luxury SUV these days needs to have a coupe-SUV sibling. The GV80 Coupe we’re seeing here, is still in a concept form, but the design team wants to know what you think about, well, the design.

Group’s Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke might read all your comments, so be nice! But anyway, the front fascia looks a lot sporty here with a sporty bumper design and gloss black inserts. The Crest Grille has that brand-specific G-Matrix pattern, but it’s all black here, matching the rest of the dark elements on the car. On the side, you can see one more brand-specific design element, the parabolic line, but obviously, the GV80 Coupe is all about that coupe roofline. The roof sports those double spoilers, while there’s another ducktail spoiler on the rump. BTW, the roof is made of carbon fibre.

The five-spoke forged aluminum wheels look just as stunning and tasteful. I love those twin stripes that are of a bit darker gray shade than the rest of the rim.

“It (GV80 Coupe) emphasizes the duality of the Genesis brand by showcasing the antagonistic character that lives within the Athletic and Elegance parameters of Genesis’ design philosophy,” says Donckerwolke.

The cockpit boasts carbon fibre bucket seats, a G-Matrix strut brace behind the bucket seats, and of course, flashes of Magma and orange wherever possible. The upholstery is a combo of black Nappa leather and suede.

Nope, we don’t know if there’s a 4.0L V8 biturbo under the hood, but there’s gonna be something spicy on offer, that’s for sure.
