Hyundai Mufasa SUV all set to grab the crown in China

2023-Hyundai-Mufasa-SUV

If you’re a ’90s-born one, you’d probably remember watching the original The Lion King (1994) movie. The lead character’s name is Mufasa (King). I’m not entirely sure what The Lion King has to do with this new Hyundai SUV, but I’m not sure what old British aircrafts have to do with MG Motor India’s SUVs either. So I guess we’ll just have to roll with it for now—literal or otherwise.

But anyway, the Hyundai Mufasa is a brainchild of Beijing-Hyundai joint venture. I’m told that this new model is gonna replace the ix35 SUV in the market. The Mufasa is gonna make its public debut at the Auto Shanghai 2023, so if you’re attending, make sure to send in lots of photos.

The Mufasa gives off Mitsubishi vibes from the front; the X-shape is very similar to Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design language. On the side, there are muscular fenders with sharp creases, and at the rear, there’s this oval-shaped light signature against a black appliqué. But as you can also probably see, there’s a white version sans black appliqué. And as someone pointed out on the internet, the rear fascia reminds us of the Kia EV6.

On the inside, you can expect all the latest cutting-edge tech, including more than sufficient displays, creature comforts and ADAS.

While the ix35 offered 118 kW (160 metric hp) 2.0L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine coupled with 6-AT and 103 kW (140 metric hp) 1.4-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine coupled with 7-DCT options, the Mufasa is gonna offer 2.0L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine coupled with 6-AT at launch.
