When it comes to all-electric vehicles, Audi currently sells Q4 e-tron, Q8 e-tron, e-tron GT, and Q5 e-tron (China exclusive). There’s also the China-exclusive Q2L e-tron, but it won’t make it past 2023. Of all these e-tron models, the Q4 e-tron, according to Audi, has contributed to the strong growth in deliveries in the first half of 2023 (+51.2%). Which is probably why Audi has rolled out some updates/upgrades for the Q4 e-tron for 2024, with prices in Germany starting at €52,950.

Model RWD quattro
45 e-tron €52,950 €54,950
55 e-tron €59,000
45 e-tron Sportback €54,950 €56,950
55 e-tron Sportback €61,000

The Q4 is just over two years old, which is probably why the updates don’t include any styling revisions. So, what’s new then? Well, the Q4 45 e-tron models replace the Q4 35 e-tron and Q4 40 e-tron, offering output figures of 210 kW (286 metric hp) and 545 Nm (402 lb-ft) in RWD variant and 210 kW (286 metric hp) and 679 Nm (501 lb-ft) in quattro (AWD) variant. The RWD models are claimed to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.7 seconds, while the quattro is claimed to be 0.1 seconds quicker.

And, the Q4 50 e-tron quattro is replaced with Q4 55 e-tron quattro, offering 250 kW (340 metric hp) and 679 Nm (501 lb-ft). Both regular and Sportback models are claimed to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.4 seconds. However, regardless of 45 or 55, the top speed is limited to 180 km/h (112 mph).

The updated permanently excited synchronous motor (PSM) on the rear axle benefits from an optimized thermal management system for greater efficiency.

Another important update is that all models now get a 77 kWh (net) battery pack, meaning the 52 kWh option is no longer available. Thanks to optimized cell chemistry, the RWD models can handle DC fast charging up to 135 kW while the quattro models can take up to 175 kW. As for range, the Q4 Sportback 45 e-tron (RWD) is claimed to offer a WLTP range of up to 562 km (349 mi).

Audi claims to have tweaked the suspension setup as well, which now is claimed to offer an improved blend of comfort, driving fun, and stability. Whether the model has standard or sport suspension or suspension with damper control, the steering characteristics and the damper tuning have been specially adapted, the company says. The sport suspension lowers the body by 15 mm.

As for the visual bits, the new Edition S line offers wheel arch inserts and door appliques in contrasting Mythos Black Metallic, 21-inch wheels in a bronze matte 5-W-spoke star design, darkened Matrix LED headlights, darkened LED rear lights, and Audi rings in a bronze finish.

Part of the 2024 updates include a new “character sound”, emitted via two exterior speakers at the rear and two interior speakers in the rear doors. Available from the factory as a special feature, this model-specific soundscape varies according to load and speed up to the car’s top speed.

Inside, a 10.25-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit and Audi MMI Navigation Plus are standard fitments, as are heated front seats and electric tailgate opening.

Assisted lane changing function is optionally available and can be activated via the MMI. The new system uses white arrows in the instrument cluster and in the augmented reality head-up display to indicate the driver whether it is safe to change lanes and which lane it is safe to change to. If the driver initiates the lane change by tapping the turn signal, the system actively assists the driver in steering. Once the vehicle is in the new lane, it switches the turn signal off again. During the lane change, the person behind the wheel retains full responsibility. Assisted lane changes are made possible using data from the rear radar.
