First all-electric GTI in 50-year GTI history

The Volkswagen ID. series of electrified vehicles is now joined by the ID. Polo GTI, which, of course, is the hotter version of the ID. Polo. Prices in Germany will start at under €39,000 when it goes on sale in the coming months. Just to compare, the regular ID. Polo starts at €33,795 (including VAT).

The ID. Polo GTI wears a sporty bodykit that includes sporty bumpers, side skirts, red accents, and sporty 19-inch alloy wheels. Bridgestone Potenza Sport, specifically developed for the ID. Polo GTI, will be available as an option. IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights are standard here, as are IQ.LIGHT taillight clusters.

In addition to the front differential lock, the standard technical equipment includes the adaptive DCC sports suspension and progressive steering, specially developed for the GTI.

The ID. Polo GTI still remains a front-wheel-drive “hot hatch”, of course. The numbers are 166 kW (226 metric hp) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft). Just to compare, the regular ID. Polo offers 155 kW (211 metric hp) and the same 290 Nm of torque. At a later date, VW will introduce lower variants of the regular ID. Polo, including 85 kW (116 metric hp) and 99 kW (135 metric hp) variants.

As for the ID. Polo GTI, the battery pack is gonna be the same 52 kWh unit, estimated to offer a WLTP range of up to 424 km (263 mi). The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 6.8 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the 155 kW ID. Polo. A GTI driving mode can be activated via the steering wheel, which offers a maximum sporty driving experience, in addition to displaying a specific colour and graphics scheme on the instrument cluster.

Some of the other key highlights inside include a GTI sports steering wheel with a red 12 o’clock marking, premium sport seats, tartan check upholstery, red contrast stitching throughout, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, and a 12.9-inch central touchscreen.

Optional equipment includes a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, pneumatic massage function for the electrically adjustable 12-way front seats, and a large panoramic sunroof.
