Porsche 911 GT3 S/C joins the lineup with 6-MT

Porsche has expanded the 911 lineup, more specifically, the 911 GT3 lineup, with the first-ever 911 GT3 S/C, available to order now in Germany, with a base price of €269,000 (including VAT). Billed as a driver’s car, the 911 GT3 S/C is available exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission and as a two-seater.

Being a convertible, the 911 GT3 S/C tries its best to cut down as much weight as possible. The lightweight body components were carried over from the 911 S/T. The bonnet, wings and doors are made of carbon fibre. The carbon-fibre anti-roll bars and shear plate are also carried over from the S/T. The brakes and wheels also follow the S/T lightweight formula: the PCCB braking system, which is more than 20 kg (44 lbs) lighter than the cast iron brakes, comes standard.

And, of course, the centre-lock lightweight magnesium wheels (20-inch front and 21-inch rear) are also from the S/T; these wheels are claimed to save around 9 kg (20 lbs) of rotating mass. The roof mechanism includes magnesium ribs to keep the weight in check. Last but not least, a lightweight and compact 40 Ah lithium-ion battery further saves about 4 kg (9 lbs) compared to a conventional battery.

How much does the car weigh? Well, Porsche claims 1,497 kg (3,300 lbs) unladen, which is 35 kg (77 lbs) heavier than the regular 911 GT3 with 6-MT, and 47 kg (104 lbs) heavier than the 911 GT3 RS. Even if you compare it to the 911 Speedster of 2019, it is heavier by 32 kg (71 lbs). But if you compare it to something like a Turbo S Cabriolet, the GT3 S/C is 313 kg (690 lbs) lighter, which is comforting.

Porsche is offering a €27,941 Street Style Package (dubbed as a “Director’s Cut” package) for the 911 GT3 S/C, which includes exterior decals, contrast-painted rims, Victory Gold-painted callipers, darkened HD Matrix headlights, and Porsche crest LED door projection. More photos here.

Inside, the Street Style pack gets you 18-way Adaptive Sports Seats Plus with woven leather seat centre section; seat handles & seatbelts in Guards Red; open-pore laminated wood gear knob; Slate Grey Race-Tex convertible roof headliner, and accent strips in Pyro Red. The two-lid storage box you see in the back is an optional extra; it weighs 10 kg (22 lbs) and has a capacity of 80 litres. It comes in two options: Black (€3,748) and Street Style (€4,700).

The 4.0L naturally-aspirated flat-six pumps out 375 kW (510 metric hp) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). The engine is hooked-up with a 6-speed manual transmission featuring a sporty short final-drive ratio. The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 3.9 seconds, and the top speed is 313 km/h (194 mph).
