Mahindra Thar ROXX military ATV tries to avoid looking like..

ATV or a beach buggy?

The Thar ROXX may not have achieved the same blockbuster success as the 3-door Thar, but Mahindra wants to give it another shot, this time with a different target audience. The Mahindra Defense Systems has teamed-up with Bengaluru-based automotive components maker Prad4x4 to create this Thar ROXX-based military ATV. It is unclear if the Ministry of Defence or the Indian Armed Forces commissioned this or if Mahindra is trying to sell it to the military with a PoC. But either way, it looks pretty cool, I think.

As you can see, the Thar ROXX has been completely stripped down. Not only have the traditional doors been removed, but the entire rear section of the roof, and C- and D-pillars have also been chopped off. Instead, there’s a roll cage with a circular opening on the roof. There are custom bumpers, of course. A gun mount, a winch, and full underbody protection are some of the other key highlights. Not many details have been revealed. Surprisingly, there’s no snorkel. But overall, it looks rather more like a buggy than an ATV. A couple more inches of lift could’ve made it look even better, I think.

The HEMI V8-powered Jeep Wrangler Commando by Fox Factory Vehicles looks like an actual military vehicle, but it is for civilian use. I guess what I’m trying to say is, the ROXX-based military vehicle could’ve looked even better, but I think I know why it looks the way it looks. You see, the Thar ROXX looks the way it looks to try and avoid looking like a copy of the Wrangler, and I think the same applies to the ROXX-based military vehicle. But either way, let me know which collaboration you like: the Wrangler x Fox Factory Vehicles or the ROXX x Prad4x4.
