As some of you may know, Audi has launched a China-only AUDI brand (yes, all caps and no rings) that specifically sells electric models, even though the regular Audi brand already sells e-tron electric models. What’s up with that weirdness, you ask? Well, I’m not entirely sure, but the key difference is that the regular Audi brand is a joint venture between VW Group and FAW Group, whereas the AUDI brand is a joint venture between VW Group and SAIC Motor. Now that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the AUDI E7X.
The AUDI E7X is the second AUDI model after the AUDI E5 shooting brake that went into production last year. The E7X is a full-size crossover/SUV that is slightly larger than a Q7. The design language is similar to the E5 with complicated lighting on the front and rear fascias. Notice how the main headlight LEDs are stacked vertically here. The LED lighting on the facias can perform different animations and convey messages.
The E7X measures 5,049 mm in length, 1,997 mm in width and 1,710 mm in height with a 3,060 mm wheelbase. Adaptive air suspension and all-wheel steering are some of the other key highlights. The lidar-based AUDI 360 Driving Assist System is specifically tailored for the Chinese traffic conditions. One of the assistance systems includes memory parking that can be activated with one click at the entrance of garages or parking lots.
Built on the Advanced Digitized Platform with 900-volt architecture, the E7X offers single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD options. The RWD offers 300 kW (408 metric hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft), while the AWD boasts 500 kW (680 metric hp) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) and an official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 3.9 seconds. Depending on the variant, there are two battery sizes with gross capacities of 100 kWh and 109 kWh, both supplied by CATL. The larger pack is claimed to offer a CLTC range of over 750 km (466+ mi).
Some of the key highlights inside include a curved 27-inch 4K touch display, AI-powered AUDI Assistant 2.0, so-called zero-gravity rear seats with a max recline angle of 120 degrees and a 16-point massage function, a 21.4-inch rear-seat entertainment screen, and a 26-speaker Bose Performance Series sound system.
The AUDI E7X will go on sale in China in the coming weeks. A third model, a sedan, is expected to join the lineup in early 2027.
